What is going on with my Samsung Smart TV?

My TV has started acting weird when I try and watch any of the news stations. The screen will be normal to start but then will dim and turn black, then normal again, then dim, and then go to black again in regular intervals. But only to the News stations. Anything else, like Netflix, Prime, Disney, Paramount, or others, doesn't do this. I didn't change any settings on it so? I unplugged it and back in to see if that would help but it didn't. Any ideas?

I recall trying to get a voice caption turned off which I turned it on somehow, and may have pushed some wrong buttons. I got the voice turned off but may have done something else too. I have discovered it does that on any Samsung TV Channel show too. The audio isn't affected, just the screen pictures. 😖

OK, I don't know what caused it to begin with, but it is no longer happening as of today. And I haven't done anything outside of using a remote to change channels.

Sounds like it's a non-OLED tv, and the backlight is failing. No idea why it's only happening with some channels, but it probably won't be long before it's happening all the time. Modern LCD/LED tvs are garbage, and very often only last 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, I don't think the TV can choose which channels to affect and which to spare. It would be a massive coincidence that only the News Channels are affected. And it's all of them ABC, CBS, FOX, BBE, NBC. I mean you can still listen and watch but it is annoying that the picture goes bright-fade-black screen, and then repeat.

Update firmware per network access and then reset this tv to factory default setting. I had something like that, Display went off but sound remained with Video on demand service. It's just a lot of work if you have to insert all user logins and passwords when you reset a Samsung TV. Sometimes you can use QR codes to insert user logins but this doesn't work on all services.

Or the tv is giving in or the problem is located im the settings of your tv. Things like power saving modus can cause problems like that. If that's also not the case then the problem lies most likely with the cables or devices from who you receive your television connection from

It might just be your local news channels are having issues , if the tv works fine with other channels. My news channels do that as well sometimes , so don’t sweat it , only sweat it if every channel starts doing it lol

Hmmm, so far it is only the news channels. I'll have to watch the news again and see if it is still happeneing.

Your TV is smarter than you. It knows you are asleep, so it's trying to make it dark in the room.

The TV is definitely smarter... You think you are awake while trying to watch the "news" channels.

If the news stations are being supplied by a cable box, check that the HDMI cable from it to the TV is firmly connected to both the box and the TV. If it is, it could be a faulty cable box.

I was thinking if you had a smart TV the apps like Netflix may be installed directly on the TV itself and not coming through a cable box, only the wifi router.

Check for software updates. But it seems your TV is on the way out.

If you are on cable or dish. It could possibly be from the weather. My cable company gets their signal from their dish.

I didn't either until yesterday. Maybe it's an attempt at a news blackout. Any other channels are not affected.

All of my TVs are Samsung but I haven't had any oroblems

Nope, still happening. I'll have to check other Samsung TV channels and see if it is the TV or something else. I don't watch any of their channels except the news.

It won't be in settings... You need to search for it on Google using the tvs model name.

It will show various types of tests on the screen. Like color check, brightness check and many more
