How do I know if my Smart LG TV has gone bad, or is it my firestick that I use for it?

Tried to turn on the news, and the picture on my TV blacks out after the usual lights come on. I took the firestick out to see if this was the problem, and there is that clear block that says, "No Signal." So, surely the firestick is whats gone bad, or? I have had it for about 3 years. I pressed "TV on the remote, and it tried to tune the channels (but there were no channels available) and everything else seems to be working as far as the picture and settings go. I hope it's not the TV set and just the firestick. Maybe it got overheated because I sometimes leave the TV on accidentally overnight.

It's a sign from God. donate the TV, smash the FS with a hammer and turn off the services. Wallah! Problem solved... and you have tons of free time on your hands that which you can now live life and have more meaning, rather than taking in the worst news of the day.

Now that... is "smart"! I did the same... I mis being able to see some things rarely, but most isn't worth it.

I like that, as crazy as it sounds. You know, I never used to watch TV. At all. Only films and Jeopardy with my daughter. Now it's just movies. and news, and Japanese on Youtube (just the lessons).

The TV is fine. It's likely your firestick has gone funny.

Press the home button and see if the apps come up, select any app and it should load up.

I tried that, and nothing happens. That is when there is no picture at all--but what does appear is everything else--the "mute", and volume are working.

But I think you're right--the fire stick may be bad as I did leave the TV last night and have done so on other nights. It might have overheated.

Without being there to troubleshoot, it's hard to say where the problem is. I suggest you go online and search (Google) for the problem you have. There may be someone who has had a similar problem and what to do. If you don't find anything there, you can try the online LG and Firestick websites FAQ sections.

Since the TV displays error messages, the TV is probably okay. Either the Firestick has gone bad or the port it's plugged into has failed. Follow the suggestions that @horatiohornblower has.

It sounds like the Firestick. Nothing sounds wrong with the TV. Unplug the Firestick from power and plug back in to power. Then connect it to a different HDMI port on your TV. If it doesn't work in the new port. Buy a new streaming device.

Used up capacitors in power supply unit of your TV , maybe.

If you have a laptop you can get an HDMI cable and connect it to the TV and see if you can get the laptop screen up on your TV. If you can do that it is most likely the Firestick/ DM me is you have questions.

This happened to my Amazon Smart TV. Ended up having to throw it out. It would not show a clear picture anymore. Yours sounds like it's in the same boat.

Try a different input with the fire stick or a different device. I have had TVs slowly die over time, losing one input at a time. It’s take a few years for some TVs.

I always get the words "Usb is not connected" at first, then the TV turns on to a list of channels, both cable and streaming ones.

When I remove the fire stick and work with the TV remote for LG, the regular menus show up. The only thing that doesn't show up is the regular window I get with all the channels listed (Netflix, YouTube, the menu showing channels above, etc.
