i got central air conditioning a year ago. It is so much better than running 3 or 4 noisy window units. They never got the house cool enough and would cause my electric bill to go through the roof.

I had this installed because i was afraid that if Biden got re-elected he would outlaw air conditioning. I guess we could say that he did me a favor.

Yes and no.

We cool our open living room, dining room and kitchen space with a swamp cooler (evaporative cooler). It does a great job. Swap coolers work really well in dry climates like we have in northern California. They don't work in humid climates.
The swamp cooler uses way less energy than an AC unit.

We have a window AC unit in our master bedroom for nights when it's uncomfortably warm, which isn't that often. We have one in our guest bedroom, too, for the few occasions when we have guests in the summer time.

At most, we use the swamp cooler off and on for 5 months a year. Aside from summer, our windows provide comfortable cross ventilation. We set up a large square fan in our living room window and one in our bedroom window on nights when it's warm but not warm enough to need AC.
We also have a ceiling fan in our living room and one in our bedroom.

Outside temp in our carport today reached 103°F (39.4°C), on the 2nd day of summer.

When I lived in the Northeast, it was several years before we added A/C to the house, basically after our first child was born.

when we found this house, we didn’t have to do anything. So far everything runs well and hubby does some maintenance work when needed or we call the experts.

I have 2 window air conditioners. There's one in the dinning room and 1 in our master bedroom. The one in the dinning room cools off the kitchen, dinning room and living room. The one in our bedroom cools the 3 bedrooms if we leave the doors open. Since it's just me in the house right now, I just turn on the master bedroom a/c and the animals and I stay in there

I do! We installed a mini split 2 or 3 years ago. We used to rely on window units. Thank god we have that mini split now

The electric bill is going up due to Trump. How are you going to pay for whole house AC?
If I ran mine it's too much. Last it was almost $700 a month.
I put fans in the windows before dawn to pull cool air in. And run a room AC 4-8pm which is when the house gets the hottest.

We have reverse cycle air conditioning in 3 rooms, and evaporative cooling that can reach the whole house. Right now it is 2 degrees celsius so suffice to say cooling isn't a priority.

Ahh yes! And the air conditioner is about 4-5 feet from my bed, so I stay nice cool all night long.

We have a window unit in the LR. I hardly use it (only a few times per year). I prefer the windows open and use fans to draw the air through by pointing them out instead of in. It’s hot, but not sweaty.
