At least a month ago, I started watching my "Man From U. N. C. L. E" DVD''S again (just to have SOMETHING to watch while I'm eating). I got as far as the third DVD in the collection and the DVD drive refused to play it or even recognize that there WAS a disc in the drive! I tried a couple others and got the same results. Next, I put a CD in and it played fine. So, I tried another DVD and it still refused to play it. About a week ago, all of a sudden, my mouse stopped responding!! Close to a year ago, I was having some other problem with it and bought a new one on eBay to replace it but, suddenly, it worked fine, again. So, I plugged in the spare mouse and it worked fine. Last night, for some reason, the power went out up here for about 2:00. After it came back on and I got the computer back up and running again, I thought I'd try the old mouse to see if that would work, now. It was as good as new, again!! A few minutes ago, I put the 3rd DVD back into the DVD drive and it played without any problem!
I've had the computer overloaded a few times before (too many tabs open as well as a few other programs running or paused at the same time) and never had any of those problems before. At one time, a year or two ago, I had at least 50 tabs open!! (It was accidental.) When the DVD stopped working, I only had maybe 20 tabs open, last night, I had just over 30 open. Most of them are still open.

You are astonishingly inept with technology. Were your parents Amish or something similar? A computer is not a trashcan or a dump truck, you can't overload it. And a heavily used browser has no impact on the function of peripherals or the DVD drive. What you describe are either caused by aging electronics, dirt in the hardware (lens, port...) or maybe a screwed-up driver through an update.
Why, because IT chooses to break down on me? What's that got to do with me?
Then, what else caused them to stop working, Einstein?
The lens had no trouble reading a CD and I haven't cleaned it since then but it works fine, now!
I didn't take any updates and, if I did, why did the 2nd mouse work but the first didn't (they're the EXACT same brand, model and even colours), until I was forced to reboot?
Man, in all your questions regarding tech, you are the constant victim of it.
If your system suddenly works correctly after a reboot it means that the memory had entangled itself in an awful mess. It shouldn't happen with modern OS, but sometimes it still does. Then again, we don't even know the configuration you are using.
