Do you still use social media?

I know, I know, some people are going to say GaG is social media but I don't exactly consider it that way. To me it still falls in the realm of "online forums." I'm talking about the mainstream social media we all know: IG, TikTok, X, and Facebook.

I deleted all mine awhile ago and life is actually better without it because I have my focus back. Do you still use social media?

I have never used traditional social media beyond occasionally advertising my little company. You can search the Internet far and wide and you won't find any posts of me posting my food, or my political takes, or my crash outs, or my positions on Star Wars vs. Star Trek. To the extent I post anything close to those things, it would be here, and would be a reply to someone else's question.

Almost never use FB or IG now. Also regret overusing it when I was younger. Mostly on LinkedIn for professional reasons.

But even boring ole Linkedin has gotten politicized lately which is driving me nuts. I saw a “trans activist” posting about the “evils of capitalism” on LinkedIn? It was beyond ret*rded (don’t know how else to explain it).

I NEVER I mean NEVER post anything political on LinkedIn. I see it as an extension of the workplace. GAG is the only place I’ll ever post my opinions.

I regret overusing IG when I was younger too. For awhile I deactivated my LinkedIn too because I feel like it's just a platform now for people to voice their workplace unhappiness or try to show that they got this degree or that certification or they did this volunteer thing, dot dot dot. But I rebooted it in case any recruiters really want to offer me better opportunities.

Yeah I regret a ton of the crap I posted on FB / IG when I was younger too. Didn’t’t know any better at the time but still. Once you post something it’s permanent. Even if you delete quick it sticks in peoples minds (people can take screenshots of it).

If you are a famous celebrity and/or wealthy you can afford the consequences. But there can be dire consequences for us normies (canceled job, damaged professional relationships, etc).

But LinkedIn has become surprisingly political recently and it’s driving me crazy. I don’t even like seeing political posts I agree with. Because I know that just encourages other people who disagree to put their own stupid posts.

I'm going to be the odd duck here and say I use Tiktok but only to pass the time. Everything else I barely use and I certainly don't use X aka Twitter.

I never really used any social media other than Facebook. I got it in 2010. It was fantastic for years but then started censoring posts that contrasted with its ideology. It gradually got worse and worse. Everything has been purged and it is no longer a social media site. It is just full of advertisements and mindless clickbait. Posts from my family, friends and contacts don't even show up anymore.

I signed up with LinkedIn back in 2010 but haven't used it in over 10 years.

I have faxccebook but only go on when I see something in my email about a friend. I've had X since 19 but never go on hardly. My account was hacked I discovered a few weeks ago when I received a notice of suspension. Oh well!

I do by messing with the algorithm to show me what i want, instead of what they want. I also use it for wifi text/calling.

I use it to communicate with friends and family. I’m a big sports fan, so I use it to stay updated, and I follow local IG pages to see what’s happening in my area. Since I'm a runner, it's also a great way to find out about local races and running events I might want to participate in
