Are Meetup events actually good for making real friends anymore?

I recently decided after 3 years to delete my Meetup account. I realized after 4 years, I have not met 1 decent genuine friend with all the events I attended! I did meet a handful of seasonal friends or acquaintances, some fell off others masks came off. I have a wide net of interests/hobbies. I attended most events to do a shared hobby together and found more genuine conversations. I noticed the singles events, make a friend, or Bar event.. I constantly walked away bored out of my mind, most event felt like a forced interaction to meet n greet new people, the surface level conversations were always the same, where you from, what do you do. I exchanged #'s with potential new girl

friends, and was again left in the dust, Id reach out once to Meetup, always was met with their busy. I get that, occasionally id reach out a 2nd time, would get ghosted or again busy. Nowadays people have become beyond fake n flaky! The last girl I was casual friends with, complained that she was lonely and had no one to do things with. I literally told her, I've reached out several times to attend events, she would leave me on read or ghost. She just wanted sympathy, not a solution.

I decided to delete Meetup because its full of clicks and fake alliances. Some cool people too, they Eventually fall off and stop attending!

Depends what you are searching for. I think it's mostly where you are, ie what's going on for you personally, rather than what is happening around you. So what is the deeper reason why you're not meeting people?

Meetup is sort of dead these days. It's also full of ethnics and just kind of blah people.

It was better 10 years ago when you could at least meet some somewhat attractive people with cool sorts of groups such as laughter yoga.

Now it's just codgers and as I say, ethnics. But I might suggest this goes deeper.

I meet many people, the issue is meeting genuine people who actually want to be friends and or date. If we hit it off.
The last few events for a social always tend to be weird. We're forced with strangers to have boring, mindless small talk! I tend to connect more deeply with people at hikes. My cycle Group is older people, the ones that are my age of course coupled up. I go because its fun to cycle with a group.

And yeah, terminal small talk, and yes, mediocre people and interactions.

I think for me, the solution is the old quote which apparently wasn't by Goethe: "Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid"

So I challenge myself more by approaching women I'm very attracted to. Not easy.

It seems focusing on your interests rather than generic groups may be the way forward. I also like yoga classes so you will meet like minded people in anything you're interested in.

Yea, well I was always wanting to meet someone in a natural setting. The dating events, we're always weird and I ended up exchanging numbers with women for friends.
The thing is, Im attractive but there's a huge difference from a man giving me attention vs leveling up with "intentions" ask me out, for my #. Its always the ones I dont like that's are not even in my league that tend to shoot their shot.

I have little tolerance for games too. Example. A guy aqunatance from Meetuo was sorta cute, little younger then me. I wanted to get to know him, we had a few events from Meetup to chat. This past Week he asked if I was going line dancing, I said yes. Not a meetup event. We danced had fun, When i left i mentioned he should come visit me in my hood sometime. He said to do what? I said get drinks, dinner. I kept it low key, wasn't asking him out. When i got home he texted me saying to give him the specifics and that he would be down. So I gave him specifics, said this weekend, I gave my address because we could walk to places. I never heard from him till Sunday am!! Asking if is eas still free today. I left him on read, removed him from my Instagram account. WTF 3 days on read. People are busy, same day plans don't always work for me, especially in this situation. I suspected he never liked me, also I had pictures I posted on my page of an event he was eith me at, he was in the Pictures, he never "liked" the post, despite him being posted?
He always watched my stories never liked. I suspect he was a montiontering spirit 🤣😂

I met a great bunch of guys in a ski meetup. by the way outdoor activity groups are a great way for a woman to meet single men who are somewhat intelligent and in good physical condition.

I’ve had mostly good experiences with Meetup. I have one very close friend that i met over a decade ago.
