Until one crashes and kills someone, especially if it kills a kid. It's going to instantly be international news for weeks and people are going to be screaming bloody murder about it. You cannot make anything that is 100% fail-safe.
You are right. There will be accidents and people will be hurt. It is inevitable. Personally I don't want to see or hear them flying over MY home. And what about privacy? A drone should be able to fly above your home and yard with a camera and make videos? I think there will be lots of issues. Imagine 10 drones at a time flying over your house 24/7.
The Supreme Court has already decided that one, the airspace above 500 feet or something like that is fair game and anyone can film anything they want as long as they don't go below that altitude, and you can't shoot them down, which was one of the big issues in that case.
Trump was involved with that in the 1980s when he wanted to build Trump Tower above the 85-year-old Tiffany building (back then about 40-years-old), he did it by buying the airspace above Tiffany, but it led to the Supreme Court case.
I'm sure with the drone deliveries they're going to have something in the user agreement that says they can film anywhere whether it's above or below 500 feet of your property. Obviously they would have to in order to set the delivery down on your porch. The trick will be *not* filming the neighbor's property below that altitude without their permission.
I am not aware that the Supreme Court has specifically ruled specifically about drones flying over residential houses and a 500 foot rule, if they have what case and when? There may have been other related airspace cases, but I don't know about unmanned aircraft. However even if there is such a law, it won't protect these companies if there is a public rebellion against the drones. That could cost the companies more than the lawsuits.
