On July 20, 1969, the first human being in history, American Neil Armstrong, set foot on the moon. In 300 thousand years of modern humans, no other nation every accomplished this feat. It was something that only dreams were made of. I remember the day it happened and how it took every American’s breath away. I remember exactly where I was and how proud I was to be an American, the nation that makes things others only dream of become reality. To this day, 57 years later, there have only been 12 humans who landed on the moon. All 12 were Americans.
And they did it with computers that have only a tiny fraction of the computing power in your cell phone!
But the odd part is that you would expect that 57 years after that greatest accomplishment in all of human history, we would be talking about a lot more than “going back” to the moon. With all the advancements in technology since then, wouldn’t you have expected to be way beyond repeating the same thing America already achieved 57 years ago? Yes there is talk about Mars next. But wouldn’t you have expected that to have happened years ago?
Have American’s lost the sense of adventure and leadership that made us the greatest nation in human history?

The moon is close. We didn't do much there but bring back a few rocks. Mars is 2 years away and we have to bring everything we'd need to survive with us and enough fuel to get back. Space exploration is incredibly costly and in either case, there is no immediate payback.
If we had endless resources and money, sure we might be shooting off to Mars, but we have far more Earth problems to address than we did in 1969. It would be wiser to address them than to go anywhere else. I agree, space exploration is amazing and exciting, but practical? No.
It sort of means we're ignoring our issues with education, housing, immigration, healthcare, welfare, which could sure use the money diverted to space exploration. Let's work out our local kinks so coming generations have good ilves..
Except that the United States has always been able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Maybe if we can get people like New York Democrats not to spend twice as much on illegal immigrants as they do on police we would already have a thriving settlement on Mars.
Or maybe, the logical conclusion, was that it never happened?
I call that one the loony conclusion.
So true! I guess they made a peace treaty with those smart-ass aliens that said, "Don't come back!!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was an amazing achievement. It is good to have a President who wants to go back to outer space. It is the final frontier
Not at all.
It would be totally wrong to say we are going to the moon for the first time, though that's what moon landing deniers believe.
The US landed men on the moon 6 times in a few years.
I think even then people lost interest. Now its worse 🤷♂️
