I don't care how short you are, a reclined seat will definitely crowd your tiny space. Do you think it's rude or do you feel everyone is entitled to recline, so you don't mind?

Of course I recline my seat if I feel like it. I don't care if the person in front of me reclines as long as they don't drape their hair, laundry, kids over the seat.
That said, I avoid flying now. It's overpriced & the US flight attendants are all fugly/angry power tripping types these days. Plus TSA trying to get in your butt. No thanks. I'll drive even if it takes multiple days & hotel stays.
The draping hair!!! 😡
As I've never been able to fly anything other than economy, no, I have never reclined my seat when I've flown as they don't put enough space in for that to work. Might as well remove the function from those seats as it's impossible to make it work in that tight a space.
Yes, I think that feature needs to be removed from the main cabins.
I do. Not all the way, but i still recline.
They recline for a reason and am not bothered when the person in front of me reclines either.
No, i do not think it's rude.
They're making the seats more and more crammed together. It's understandable that people try to relieve their pain.
I would only do it if there isn't anyone behind me. I'm not a douche.

They make them recline for a reason. Yes, I recline my seat - so I can get comfortable. There's no way I'm sitting bolt upright for a 2, 3 or 4 hour flight. Plus, I like to sleep when I'm flying. I don't work and I don't read. I just listen to some music, chill and try to take a little nap. As far as I'm concerned, that's ME time. If I recline, so can they. Then the amount of space will be the same. If they choose not to, that's on them.
Also - I don't fly in my pajamas. I hate the way people show up for a flight nowadays. That's my biggest peeve about flying - after the shrinking passenger space, which probably gets to the root of your complaint.
@SinceYouAsked So you're going to make someone uncomfortable so you can be comfortable?
It it was me behind you I'd punch the seat constantly so you would have to put it back up.
@YesIWouldLikeFries And I'd complain to the flight attendant.
There's no reason you have to be uncomfortable - just recline your seat a little. It's not my fault the airlines have limited space so severely. That's where your beef really belongs - not with me for doing something that the seat is designed to do and which is allowed. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that I have to defer to you. And I'd turn your logic around on you. You expect me to be uncomfortable just so you can be comfortable? If I have to choose between me and you, you lose every time.
Besides, by pounding on my seat, you're acting like an small child. And I don't put up with that either. I either ask the parent to get the kid to stop or, again, complain to the flight attendant.
@SinceYouAsked Complaining to the flight attendant wouldn't achieve anything. I'd wait until the plane is in the air.
Child? People like you are the children. Just because the seat is designed to recline it doesn't mean you have to do it.
And I have a back condition so it is you that would lose.
And if you enjoy having two knees in your back good luck.
Also I wouldn't be comfortable with the seat up or reclined. Not enough room either way.
People like you are the reason the world is so fucked. You only think about yourself. You don't give a shit about others.
@YesIWouldLikeFries Well, certainly not people like you who only want to get their way.
If the person in front of me does I really have little choice. At six two I can't fly sone airlines as the distance from my seat to the seat back in front of me is less than the length of my thighs I litteraly can't sit down!
I once had to stand the entire flight (probably against faa registrations) because of this.
I can see that! Next time I fly I'm bringing a tape and measuring. 😏
You don't have to. You can find the Seat Pitch (that's what they call it), by airline here:
www.airlinequality.com/info/seat-pitch-guide/
What that site does not tell you is what it used to be. It has been steadily shrinking while people have been steadily expanding. But this site does:
www.covingtontravel.com/.../
I'll purposefully fart in the direction of the people who recline on my legs. Get up to "use the bathroom" and fart right in their face. It's very lethal if I have egg salad before the flight. I'm hella claustrophobic so if you're making me uncomfortable I'll do the same back till you relent and guess what? I can fart for hours on end of I so choose. Don't piss me off!
Ok! We've been warned! 😱
Me? No. I don’t like it and so don’t do it to others.
However.. if it’s done… Perfect time to pick up drumbeat practice.
I would really rather be the pilot. 😎
Me too! I don't recline AND I'd rather be ther pilot. 👍
Yes!! 😎😎
Not without asking the person behind me, never all the way, and never during meal service obviously.
Had an argument with a fellow passenger once, the guy in front of me ate his dinner really fast and then started reclining and I snapped at him that I was still eating, he said it was my problem and that he can recline when he wants.
Next thing, stewardess is in there, on my side, and he keeps arguing back, she ended up moving him to another seat, and I then I moved into his seat and reclined as the one behind me was now empty
I keep hearing people talk about meal service. Unless I'm in Business / First Class, I haven't had a meal on an airplane in years. U. S. airlines stopped doing that a looonngg time ago. Nowadays, in Coach, you're lucky if you get a bag of peanuts and half of a soda thrown at you.
@SinceYouAsked Well my last flights have all been international, so, there's always a meal
It's more comfortable to recline unless your dining tray is down and you are eating. The seats recline for a reason. It's the airline's fault that the seats are so close together. But it's not my responsibility to make the person behind me more comfortable by keeping my seat back up. I recline when I want to.
No. I wish people Infront of me didn't. My knees touch the back of the seat in front of me. Yes I'm that tall. I request an isle seat or emergency exit seat is even better. Its bullshit that those seats cost more. Penalizing people for something they have no control over.
They charge extra for extra leg room. Its not out of a want to being high and mighty. Its not my fault I'm bigger than the space provided.
You don't have to be "tall" for your knees to touch the seat in front of you nowadays. There's barely enough room to bend your knees into a sitting position unless maybe you're a toddler and I think even toddlers would have a difficult time.
@TrueConfection I've been tall since I was about 16 or so. I had a growth spurt. But my knees not only touch the seat in front of me they dig in and its uncomfortable for me and for the person sitting in front of me.
I am not "tall". Its not a figure of speech. I really am tall. 198cm. I have to duck in some car parks that have a 2m clearance.
I understand. I'm not very tall and the seat in front of me touches my knees too. I'm just saying that this is a problem for everyone.
@TrueConfection I don't think you do. For me its literally being in a sardine can. Its very uncomfortable.
And yet they dare charge more to get a seat with more leg room.
They should ask your height when booking a ticket. That way the tall people would get preference. Its not fair that we have to squash ourselves in. Even if I spread my legs a little or move them to one side they still touch the seat in front of me.
PSA, for those of us in the U. S., that's 6' 6".
That’s what recline is for... to recline!
I am not ashamed of doing it nor is it rude.
if everyone reclined, then everyone still gets the same space.
i fly a ton however, and luckily get upgraded to a nicer section than cattle car coach or my office pays for a pricy business ticket
Haven't been on a plane since I was kid so not really sure what it's like now or how that works. Guess it would all depend on the situation tho. Like if someone's using the table like the photo shown obviously I am not gonna smash there laptop or stop them from using it.
However if they themselves have enough space or reclined themselves then I don't see why not.
I don't know how to recline it lol. but what really pisses me off is if you're on like a 12 hour flight and the bitch in front of you decides to recline it while you're trying to rest on your head on the table tray ahead (it's impossible to fall asleep in sitting position with those seats). like, those trays don't have much room in the first place and when they start reclining the seat back it really limits even more room which is just so annoying.
I’d never do it personally. Sure I don’t have enough leg room as a 6foot tall female but neither does the person behind me. It’s not ‘rude’ per se as it is an option if you do it a little I get it but I’d also probably hate the person in front of me. Just don’t take the piss as recline it the whole flight as far as it can go..
I have a bad back thanks to an accident and sometimes I have to recline the seat. I let the airlines know ahead of time so hopefully they can seat me somewhere I will not bother someone else if I'm on an airline that lets you pick your own seat upon boarding.
Depends I guess. If my kids are sleeping on me I definitely will recline it a little bit. Other then that no.
I was trying to breastfeed my baby on a flight once and when I reclined the seat the guy behind me rammed my seat forward jolting both my baby and me. 😡
Modern airline seats don't recline all that much. The seat cushion moves forward, which gives the illusion of reclining but keeps the tray on the seatback useable under most circumstances. Even so, in my opinion reclining during meals isn't polite.
I find it rude if the person ahead of me does, so I don't do it myself.
Same here.
No, but every person I’m blessed with in-front of me does. I’m six feet tall, yet they recline it all the way back as if they catching a tan on a beach in a lounger 🤨
The one time i really wanted to after two delayed connecting flights, i got moved to the rear seat in front of the lavatory. And it wouldn't recline... fml.
I feel it's rude in my opinion. I like the respect people personal space , I think it is important for people to give others their personal space.
Nope, and I’ll block the seat in front from going too far too
I don't have the nerve to block, but I find reclining as rude as someone passing gas at the table or chewing with their mouth open.
Like a little' bit. So, they don't feel uncomfortable
Uncomfortable can't be avoided. It just goes from bad to worse.
I spent years flying on Hercules and now fly business class, i recline all the time.
I've been in the web seats of those 'herky-birds' (I assume you're referring to a C-130). Economy class on most airlines is cushy by comparison.
I do but then I always fly either premium or business class, I haven't flown cattle class for years. There's plenty of space in premium and business class.
Good for you.
I’m reclining. It’s part of the trip. I paid for that basic comfort. If I wasn’t meant to recline then the seat wouldn’t. The fact that people expect you not to do this is ridiculous.
Wow! Reading these comments you would think every person is supposed to ignore their own comfort for a space that they paid for and be empathetic that you are either too big for the seat that you could afford or you have some phobia that you can’t afford to change your accommodations for. These issues should not be someone else’s problem. Either put some more money up for the more room seats or drive. Expecting other people to accommodate you lack of resources or your body type is ridiculous and narcissistic.
This is why I pay for business class more leg room, able to sleep.
Yes, I recline the 1 inch the airlines give me now. I paid for it, I'm gonna use it.
I dont fly, if god wanted me to fly. He would have given me wings
I have not been on a plane in almost 30 years so I really do not remember.
The seats are a LOT closer together than they used to be. I wear a size 5 in women's pants and can barely slide into the seat when the seat in front of me is fully upright.
@TrueConfection Yes , I have heard that flying is like being in a cattle car. I think I would rather drive myself. I do not like the idea of waiting in line or the cavity searches. I won't even pick anyone up at the airport. My daughter went to Mexico. I told her I would drop her off at the airport but no way I was going in there to pick her up.
You can't go in, it's a drive by.
@TrueConfection yes, it sounds like a real pain in the butt.
Yes it is. The fun of traveling and going into airports to greet your loved one is a thing of the past.
I used to fly all the time for business. I have only flown since a couple of times since for vacation and I have not flown at all since COVID. I'm still not ready to get on a metal tube full of recycled air from 100+ strangers. So, I stay domestic (at least for the time being) and drive everywhere. Fortunately, I'm retired, so it's one of the rare instances where time is actually on my side.
how? reclining would be one inch in those mini seats
Imagine staring at a guy's dandruff just inches from your face and you can't escape from your own "mini seat" for hours. Then he leans "one inch" closer.
lice
No unless I am in first or business class.
Same
I have never had the need to recline my seat.
Yes. Don’t like it? Recline your seat.
I don’t mind, I usually sleep anyway
Not very often
Do you mind when the guy in front of you leans his seat back?
Only if he bangs ir back when I've got a meal of a drink o the table
Yes.
it doesn't take up much room when declined
