Motorcycle heads: what good does revving several times before taking off do besides make a shitload of noise & wake the neighborhood at 2 or 3 am?

Dig! You get into a car or truck, turn the key to start it up, maybe sit there idling for a moment before you drop it into gear and take off. A number of people these days just get in, turn it on and take off!!
On a motorcycle, you get on, turn the key, start it up and then sit there revving the shit out of it for 5:00 before you actually put it in gear and ride away to the nearest gas station because you just used up your entire tank revving it up.

Its just for attention. I try to keep mine as quiet as possible when driving off at nighttime and stuff just barely gas it. The only other situation is its a shitty old engine and it will stall out if you're not constantly on the throttle or needs to be warmed up before driving away. I've seen some people with really fucked bikes.

Motorcycles are small and do not have enough space to easily quiet them. New tech allows it however nobody wants it. We like it loud. Plus... loud pipes save lives!

No it really helps. Once i almost hit a motorcycle but even though i didn't see it i heard it and did not change lanes. Thankfully because the motorcycle was in my blind spot exactly.

I'm sure it happens but I don't recall ever seeing it. I DID see a video yesterday of one driving with his feet so he could shoot the video of him driving with his feet and then he had a nasty wreck and that was the last thing he ever did! I'm sure most of them are responsible but, there ARE dimwits like that guy!

Bike carbs are hard to tune to idle smoothly when cold, sometimes they need a little rpm to keep running to warm up.

I don't know why some people do that. I would just let mine idle for a few minutes then ride off.
