I'm retired, so my life is nothing but a vacation. When I was working, vacation hours, or what became called Flex Leave, was based on the number of years of full-time employment.
Employees with less than five years on the job received 160 hours per year- or 20 days, which was generous. The number flex leave hours increased every five years until reaching 25 years of employment, where I topped out at 264 hours- or 33 days per year, with a maximum number of hours carried on the books (unused) of 800- or 100 days leave.
While working, it was nice to take an entire month off to travel, but it is better to have all 12 months off!
Amount of vacation time was based on years of service. You started out with one week, then two, then three. Eventually you topped out at a month. But the vacation time accrued. You didn't just get one lump amount a year. You continually accrued minutes/hours of vacation time at the rate of one month's worth a year for every hour you worked. And you could save up to, I think it was, 6 weeks of vacation time before they stopped adding hours.
One time, I had a month's worth saved up and used it all to take a trip to Europe. When I got back, I already had over 18 hours of new vacation time accrued.

I've never had more than 2 weeks of vacation time during an entire year's worth of work with any job I've had. Sometimes I'll take it all in one shot and sometimes I'll split it up and take a week off during the summer and a week off from Christmas to New Years. But I hate how North American employers usually only give you 2 weeks paid holidays. You might get 3-4 weeks if you work your fingers to the bone long enough, and many people never get that lucky. People in Europe and the U. K. have it so much better than us here with so many other benefits too. S*** needs to change. lol
My SO and I try to take an international vacation to other country (ies) once a year, and that's at least 2 weeks, sometimes 3 weeks. We also try to take a 1-week vacation closer to home, at least once a year.
at my last job I had 5 weeks vacation a year. I used to take entire weeks and sometimes I would take an extra long weekend.
I dont like to be gone for more than 3-4 days
