How much vacation time do you get?

I worked in a place where I did not get a vacation in 3 years. Then when I did I had to call the office every day and listen to how fucked up things were without me. It really was no vacation for me because when I got back everything would be waiting for me.

When I changed careers I had a real vacation. In fact I had a boss that insisted that everyone take vacation time to relax and recharge. I could not believe how awesome it was.

Before I retired, my vacation time accrued hourly at a rate of 30 days per year. It accrued at that rate once you had been there long enough. I could save up to 6 weeks before it stopped accruing.
I usually used several days a year but took long vacations every once in a while.

One time, I used almost the time had accrued to take a month off and go to Europe. By the time I returned, I had accrued 2.5 more days while I was gone.

We worked 4.5 days a week - 9 hours Mon through Thurs, and 4 hours on Fridays.

When there was a paid holiday like Memorial Day on Monday. I would spend 4 vacation hours to take the preceding Friday off in order to get a 4 day weekend.

I have the right to have 5 weeks paid vacation - and decide if I take the 6th or get it paid out.

Now I work in a field where holidays aren't guaranteed off, if I work on a holiday, I accumulate 1 PTO day.

I work odd shifts, on evening/weekend shifts - I accumulate hours off, Sunday evenings giving the most = I'm always behind on this part. Our "shift maker" knows I'm terrible at taking my vacation and always makes sure I'll get the most out of my vacation/PTO/afsp.

I work 30 out of 37 hours (part time)

I actually get quite a bit in my current job. Anywhere from two weeks to four weeks. Now, in the job that I worked several years ago, not so much. I just posted a question somewhat similar in this area (Education and Career) about Sunday Blues. I guess everybody has work on their mind tonight. LOL!

Until i retired few years. Ago I had built up to 4 weeks of paid vacation time every year. But it sucked because they wouldn't allow you to take more than a week at a time. I mean you could bookend the weekends so you got 9 days off. And you could take a week off, work for a day, take a week off, work for a day, take a week off, work for a day, take a week off. Then come back to work. But you couldn't take off 4 weeks straight.

I can understand them not allowing more than 2. But only allowing a week doesn't allow you to take much of a vacation

But, f*** em. Now I can take every day off.😆

in IT in Europe, 30 days PTO + bank holidays is a norm, and sometimes you get your birthday free :D

so it gives you plenty of time to rest and recharge... the law forbids the employer from contacting you if it's not about calling you back from the vacation because of an emergency (and then they have to pay you the costs of the vacation)

Yes, I never got much time off until I started working in IT. Especially once I worked for the state. I had 5 weeks vacation after ten years, two weeks sick time and all the hack holidays that only government workers get.

My Roles were kinda like that which you describe , you had to " time " it , and being commission based you had to work around the role , or it simply cost too much , but they let me save and save and save , then at the end of a project , I'd take the lot , and come to Thailand.

Teachers here have to option of getting a paycheck during the summer by getting smaller weekly payments. Most teachers here make 80-100K. Some make more if they are dept heads. It is full time pay for a part time job.
