For the most part I would say hell no. NEVER especially not along the highway or even here in America...
However I have hitchhiked and I picked up a hitchhikers
My explanation:
in my hometown in Puerto Rico we do have a tradition of hitchhiking in our own barrio. Barrios are like communities. My barrios is made up of close Friends and family. Usually these people have known each other's for generations. Under these circumstances where I have known these people and they have known no my family and my family's family for aeons yes I have picked up "hitchhikers" usually they turn out to be 3rd or 4th cousin or a friend of a second cousin or an aunt Uncle etc you get the point basically I'm saying I know them or know of them enough to trust them.
They're more scared of you than you are of them

Nope, my selfishness with things like this have kept me alive, it's one thing to give money or food to a homeless as a good deed but it's completely out of my comfort zone to pick a random stranger into my car when I'm driving which being behind the wheel also makes you vulnerable
It depends. If it's near a known hiking area, then I'd have no issue because hitch hiking in those areas is very common. Otherwise, I'd have my reservations. However, if it was a woman hitch hiker I probably would. Only because women are generally less likely to be violent in that situation.
There is no scenario in which a news story breaks of a woman who picked up a hitchhiker and got horribly murdered that starts with, "it was a good idea."
Also me, in terms of gas usage, an extra 100 pounds in a vehicle could reduce miles per gallon by up to 2% so at $10/gallon gas, even 2% wasted on an individual going the same route is too much of a burden unless related to me or in love with me or paying for gas which if you're hitchhiking, you're probably not doing.
If I can pull over safely I usually pick them up. It rarely happens any more though because I'm not out and about as much, and there are not nearly as many hitch hikers as their used to be.
I've done quite a bit of hitch hiking myself. I used to love hitching. It's the ultimate adventure. Some of the most memorable things in my life were when I was hitching.
I've hitched an estimated 15K miles. I think I've hitched through about 30 states, but I don't remember the exact number.

Nowadays oh hell no however back in the day out of the kindness of my heart I have picked up a few.
Depends. I want to say I’d trust a woman and not a man but you literally can’t trust anyone nowadays. I most likely would offer regardless. If I die well then that’s a pity
Funny you ask because I just saw two people sticking their thumbs out last night. I almost didn't even see them. I did want to help them but safety first.
Not a Friggin chance! I might as well just stand next to the road with a sign reading “please rape and murder me”!
I have before, but not a lone... if someone is in the car with me, they can get in the back BEHIND the hitchhiker, but for the most part... I would not.
Not if he looked like Rutger Hauer!!!
Yeah but only if they look strong
I get fed up of digging all the bloody holes.
it’s about time they dug the damn thing.
What if they're dangerous? Also I'm much too shy to do that although I would if I knew their intentions.
I do enjoy a easy kill. I mean umm a easy way to help someone out.
I have in the past. Now when I see one it's such a surprise that I'm usually past them before I can decide to stop. Never had a problem with a hitchhiker but I did with someone who asked me for a ride at a mini-mall.
Already have, several times. Totally normal people with wild life stories.
No, I wouldn't. You never know if he's a killer or a rapist.
I did back in a day but today, no I wouldn't. You never know if they have a gun, knife or someone else hiding in the woods ready to jump out and kill you.
I learned a lot from the older movies including based on true events-movies.
"You got money? No? Ohh..."
*drives off*
I don't know... seems a bit too risky so I think not.
I don't think I would. I don't feel safe about trusting a stranger to get in my car.
Maybe if it was a woman and it was during the day. I not sure I pick up a dude just because if he was someone dangerous I might not be able to fight back but with a woman I think I could.
I did some hitchhiking back in the early seventies. I also picked up hitchhikers back then. It was fun.
Probably not for the same reason I don't invite random strangers into my home.
For the most part, no. The downside is just bigger than the upside.
For the sake of not getting unironically murdered, no
Sadly in this day and age, no I wouldn't.
No, never. You don't know who they might be.
Maybe in the 70's - 90's.. not in this generation!
Watched and read too much horror cases i guess😅😅
Only if it is someone I know.
Can't say that I would.
Nope seen too many movies
Maybe if I have a gun with me.
I am a woman so no.
