Many years ago, when we were MUCH younger, my cousins and I climbed to the top of Bald Mountain, in Utah's Unita Mountain Range (the Unita's are east-west trending, rather than the usual north-south). The peak is just under 12,000 feet, but the trail is well laid out and has a fairly gradual climb. Even so, by 8,000 feet I was feeling the elevation. I think we reached the peak in 3 hours. It might take me 3 days to do it now!
Among the taller structures I've climbed was to the second floor of the famous Eiffel Tower. The second floor is around 400 feet above ground level and involves climbing several hundred steps. There is a staircase to the top of the tower, but it was closed, so I took the elevator to the top... where there is a bar. After enjoying the view... and a couple of glasses of good champagne, I decided to skip the stairs and ride the elevator all of the way down to ground level!
