Do you still dress up when travelling by plane?

Honestly I miss the old days where people used to dress up to travel. Nowadays it looks like people don't even shower let alone dress up. I'm a frequent traveler and I usually wear something comfortable but on the casual chic side. I personally think that the flip flops and slides and the tracksuits should be left at home. I'm not saying you need to wear a suit or a pair of heels or spend tons of money on an outfit to travel but I think it would be nice to see people who actually put some effort on their choice of clothing.

Back when people dressed up to fly (which ended before you were born), only the wealthy (or businessmen being funded by their [usually large] company) could afford to fly, and a standard coach seat had more room and comfort than today's business class - not to mention the service was far better as well. It might not quite have been equivalent to today's First Class, but it wasn't far off.

Today, air travel is dramatically cheaper in relative dollars, but the price of that is tiny, crammed coach seats (necessary to increase plane capacity by 40%) and the "service" includes sodas and a bag of peanuts. When you're going to be squeezed into a tiny seat for hours at a time, being comfortable becomes a lot more important than being fashionable.

Flying coach isn't much different than traveling by Greyhound bus (except the plane seats are smaller and closer together), so it's no surprise that people dress about the same.

No I dress comfortable first and stylish 2nd.

i am not going to get bumped up from Business Class to first.

it’s a 12 - 14 hour flight.

if going to say China, that means Heathrow UK to Hong Kong and then either ferry or Train to mainland China (on to Guangzhou).

or if Colombia or West Coast US, it’s a long time to sit in a pair of trousers.

you wear something with plenty secure pockets, and a basic ‘shit it’s raining’ top.

when I get to the hotel, then those travelling clothes go straight into laundry.

Comfort first. I can get dressed up throughout other parts of my trip. The people in this country we are visiting have class/manners over all.
We just got off a plane last week… we sad in the back, walking towards the exit, most economy class were decent. By the time we walked pass first class… omg!! Looks like a tornado went through it. I wanted to say something… but what?

I need to be warm and comfortable and I put a lot of effort into that. Especially since i might be such at the air port over night.

There's no point in doing that. There never was, in my opinion, but I'm not old enough to have lived the times where flying was a luxury. If I'm getting squeezed on those uncomfortable seats during whatever period, I'll choose the most comfortable clothing there is, or whatever clothing that'll suit me better for whatever I have to do after leaving the airport.

I completely agree, the "homeless" look while traveling is irritating. All the girls in pajamas carrying a pillow is also annoying.

I don't dress up. Likewise I don't dress like I'm at home getting ready for bed.

I dress as I would if I were going to a casual restaurant.

I tend to wear casual or smart casual. For example a polo shirt with jeans or chinos.
