Would it be hard to get into India as a tourist, Is it safe?

As one who travels in/out of Central and SE Asia, I can tell you a little bit as it relates to current State of Affairs in India. It is a climate that has become more and more anti-American. The Caste System is very rigid and Hindu based. Americans are perceived as Christian, therefore, a threat. The incidents against the the Christians of India have risen greatly. If you are respectful and there clearly on a 6month travel VISA or B1 or B2 THEN you will have no problems. If they can't figure out why you are there then a higher level of scrutiny is administered.

If you are new to Asia, may i suggest Thailand as it is 3 bhat to 1 USD. Money goes farther there and people are super friendly. See 300 feet down to sand/sugar ocean bottoms, mountains with canoe caverns in water, Phukhet, Samui, Chaingmai, Bangkok etc Start there and within the same Passport lifetime go to India. It will be much easier for you. Let me know if I can help you out... being you are little young.

You are better off with Thai when it comes to color unless you an Indian 🇮🇳 love of money and wealth. India is very family driven decision. Thailand is not nearly as bad but some of same culture is there too.

Depends, if you're from a commonwealth country then you can get a visa pretty quick.

Since you're male, I'd say you don't have anything to worry about other than scammers. Stay away from cows though.
