Is it safe to travel to India with four kids?

We're travelling as a family and our next destination is India but I wonder if it's safe with four kids to travel there? I heard that they have a special thing for white people and since my kids are blonde, that made us think twice about our kids safety. I need advice. English is not my first language so I am sorry if I made a mistake.

Traveling anywhere can be unsafe if you get yourself in the wrong area. Doesn't matter what country you are talking about. However, yes it is safe to travel to. Just make sure you have everything planned out well. I would be happy to make any sort of suggestions if you are traveling somewhere I am familiar with.

I don't know if you are going for cultural or sightseeing reasons or resort areas. I am familiar with both. Also understand that the climate might be very hot for you if you are not used to it. Pack accordingly, especially for young kids.

There are also lots of reputable tourist operators if you want to see certain things around the country. Just research them well. They do this with people from out of the country all the time and completely safe.

Only thing is you need to just choose the right area to stay. Like I mean in every city, certain areas are very safe whereas some are not.

Well there are quite a lot of cities in India which are overall very safe to stay and visit.

1. Bangalore.

2. Pune

3. Trivandrum.

4. Tirupati ( It is pilgrimage destination)

5. Hyderabad.

6. Calcutta (Kolkata)

7. Mumbai

8. Ahmedabad.

9. Surat

10. Dehradun.

These are the top 10 in my view which are the safest cities to stay. Overall they are very safe, these have very low crime rates so you can be assured.

Bangalore is good but the thing is small business and shops close very early by around 7.30- 8 pm most of the small business close down and that means the streets will be empty and desolate even at early night.

Hence during day time you can go wherever you want but at evening ensure you are back to your hotel/room by 7 pm.

Mumbai, is another safe. Unlike Bangalore you can stay out longer as this is city that never sleeps, meaning you will always find people and business running even at night. Anyways still better to stick to 9 pm as your return time.

The other cities mentioned in the above list are safe.

Places where you should avoid going.

1. Jammu and Kashmir.

2. Rajasthan

There are many places you actually go like Jaipur, Udaipur these are all good tourist destinations but don't go to cites that are too close to the border.

3. States of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are generally dicey and so best to avoid going there. At least I don't have much confidence in these states as far as safety is concerned.

Yes some places are fine. Varanasi, Dehradun these places are okay but by and large UP is not ideal to visit.

Same goes with Bihar.

4. Delhi, Gurgaon and NCR region ( National Capital region)

There are plenty of places to visit and see in Delhi but it is best to strictly do it during day time only. Best to return to the hotel/room before 6pm.

It is extremely dangerous at night. Nothing wrong in visiting the city but stick to the timings strictly and only during the day. Even going out in the evening is not suggested.

Sorry for barging in, but @Asker you can also add Gangtok and Darjeeling to your list (if you have the time). Darjeeling has beautiful tea plantations that you might love. The weather is very pleasant, even during the summers. Sikkim (Gangtok) has amazing hills as well. Do look into it.

And as for Tirupati, the Vishnu temple can be very crowded, so do make sure that you have your kids with you at all times whenever you’re inside the temple. It is absolutely safe, but they might get lost.
