If you've been to China how was the trip?

I've been to Taiwan, which officially is part of China, but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it. Their mentality and politics may be different, but in the end they have the same genes, and when it comes down to it will side with each other. It was pretty easy to tell who the mainalnders were though, because they were so inconsiderate and were always shoving you in museum and sticking their selfie sticks in front of your face. But they also share many similarities. The drivers, especially the moped drivers are extremely reckless and inconsiderate of pedestrians, and they do things in public which people in most other countries will find odd. Some of the smaller towns especially Tamsui and Kaohsiung were super friendly, but in Taipei especially, I got the sense that a lot of them did not like White people. This could range from simply not sitting next to you on the train, to serving Asian customers first, even if you were in line first. Asian people in general received much better customer service than Whites, so there s definitely an open non-chalant racism that exists. I also wasn't a fan of the food. True Asian food is very different from American Asian food, and they also eat things for breakfast we would never eat for breakfast here.

I must applaud their public transit, and I also felt very safe, although it could often get crowded and the train station was a confusing labyrinth. And they certainly have a degree of freedom that Mainlanders don't, but from my personal observations, I think they are more similar than they are different.

I honestly don't know how White Westerners can love these countries so much. They are SO different. Turkey had more in common with the West than Taiwan. I will also say, it's definitely not a good place to travel to if you're an extrovert.

I’m Chinese and I’ve been there multiple times, I like the culture and the luxury and the food but there are a lot of people and that detracts from the beauty, subways are over crowded, buses are over crowded, streets usually do not have seats for tired walkers because it would lead to fights over who gets to sit down, and China takes advantage of their tourism by overcharging in popular places like Bei Jing or Yunan.

I've been to Hong Kong, Macau and part of the mainland. What little I saw I enjoyed, but given the political climate I doubt that I will visit the most interesting parts of China.
