I had 4 people going with me but all backed out for their reasons etc and next week is the only chance I have of getting away for awhile and taking a trip to cali. Would you go alone? Ask my boyfriend to go he don’t want to. Should I just go? I’m a little worried about crime and stuff there and traveling by myself
+1 yI guess it would depend on where I was going and how safe it was. Also if it was somewhere I had been to before and knew my way around. The update makes it sound like a road trip, in that case it would depend on how far it was, how well traveled are the roads etc. I wouldn't to it if it was driving on mountain roads or too many country back roads. Good luck though, I hope you figure out a way to make it work. Is there anyway you could take a train or bus there? Depending on how far it is and what types of layovers you'd have it might be a little safer if it's a far distance.

+1 yNo, a woman going on a road trip alone is an easy target predators look for. Once they know you are driving out somewhere alone they could follow you. It would be better if you flown there but still you never know what type of emergency might happen and your stuck in Cali with no one you know on personal level to help out.
Going out shopping, eating, watching a movie is fine but when it involves ling distance traveling to another state or country, I wouldn't do it. To many women end up missing that way

Nope. If my tickets and bookings are refundable, I will get my refund and do something else with the money.
I travel to a place not just in my interest, but also with regards to my travel mates' interests. If they do not want to go anymore, why do I have to go and do the things they wanted to do?
Plus, I don't like travelling solo.01 Reply
It depends on where I'm going.
If it's somewhere like a sightseeing trip I would cancel but if the plan was to party and do fun activities I would go and meet people there myself.
I mean if it's the one opening for a vacation you gotta make the most of it but not if you feel like the trip will suck00 Reply

Before we even get into talking about you going alone, there's been cases of women setting other women up to get raped/drugged. Even going with "friends" isn't a guarantee unless they're the right friends.
What does your dad think?
What does your boyfriend think?
I'd bet every man you know told you not to go but you don't want to listen.

Next time go plan a vacation where the vacation date isn't too far away or go on a vacation that requires some sort of deposit. Because truth is, usually when all your friends back out it is because they were never that excited to go in the first place. So now its time to go, they put other priorities ahead of this vacation. It has happened to me a lot in the past
Now if you are asking if it is safe, it depends on the location you are going to, neighborhood where you are staying and how long you are staying. Its a risk you take and it should be only your choice. Dont let anyone decide - +1 y
@shaysh87 Men rob other men all the time, but yes women are weaker so it's more dangerous for women than for a man. Although there are places in the world were even hardcore special forces soldiers will not walk down the street alone & they only go out in armed groups of 9+ because it's so dangerous.
- +1 y
@shaysh87 Only some women are confused about the fact that men are the stronger gender. I'm just telling you how STUPID it is for a woman to go out alone. But if you listen to criminals who talk about how they pick victims it's about behavior too. A man who has the signs of being meek/soft/unaware will get robbed, regardless of if he is 7 feet tall or 3 feet tall. It's just that the robbers will make sure to have a gun if they go against the 7 foot tall guy. I had a friend who was over 6' and little midget sized guys tried to challenge him.

just because a guy is short , it does not mean he can't be a decent fighter. there are a lot of short guys out there who are better fighters than tall women. because reality is, men are biologically designed to fight. women are biologically designed to nest.
men have faster and stronger reflexes, more resilient / strong bones and tendons , more lean muscle mass, Men tend to also be more talented at fighting than women. Its like their innate ability.
this is why women are often more targeted than women. men are harder to defeat - +1 y

but there are exceptions to the rule. I , myself, am very thick, strong, muscular, and have the v shaped form that most men have. Wide shoulders, pronounced pectorals, thick waist and smaller lower body. A personal trainer once told me that I have a body of a warrior. In other words, my upper body looks a lot like a man's.
And honestly , I am twice as strong as the average woman. Once I did kickboxing for 3 months and I whooped a 5'10'' 190 pound guys ass. It wasn't hard at all. .

@hahahmm
Many people ask me where I get my strength from. They're always shocked at how strong I am. I've had guys tell me that they would trust me to carry them. But i think its all genetic. Because all the women on my dad's side of the family are big and strong. Bigger than me. I"m considered the smallest out of them all. - +1 y
@shaysh87 You can be strong but the world's best boxer ever got her azz kicked by a low ranked dude. The thing most of you women don't get is that guys are usually holding back when they fight a woman. Especially true in sparring. Same for if a big guy spars with a small guy. You're not going to have the muscle density of a dude. This is also why no WNBA players can cut it in the NBA. Period. So if a woman is smart, she's not going to try and fight a sober dude.

actually, I never work out. guys who work out cannot even defeat me. I wrestled a few guys similar to my height who work out , lift. I don't even lift. They still can't win a wrestling match against me. If I had lifted, I likely would have won.
I think you should quit your assumptions. - +1 y
reality is, not all guys have the same strength even if they all worked out the same way, trained the same length of time, ate the same way. there are strong guys just like there are weaker guys.
so You can't say that just because male athletes in mens football is stronger than womens football, then that means all men can be as strong as athletes in men's football. men's football have the strongest guys out of the entire US. there are plenty of men who can train their hearts out and will never ever make it there. - +1 y
another thing is:
though i always had immense strength, my arms never had any muscle definition. i never lifted. i just kickboxed for 3 few months. it gave me super human strength. i could whoop the asses of men who are 5-7 inches taller than me effortlessly. I did all of this with no muscle definition.
if i had lifted weights and grew muscle definition, you'd better be scared.
+1 yI would, as I have to ask for time off 3 months or more in advance, missing that chance means it would be at least another 3 or so months, and nothing to say that they wouldn't back out again then.
Worse, in a month some or all of them could end up going when I can't get time off to go.
I've done it before, make the best of it.

+1 yIf you really want to go then do it. Before you leave just have your vehicle checked out to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Buy some mace or pepper spray and keep it on you at all times. It's better to have some sort of protection than nothing. Be cautious about your surroundings at all times but don't be paranoid. It's normal to be nervous walking around by yourself, jut don't let it show. Just have fun and enjoy yourself. I heard California is a beautiful place.

+1 yIt might be a good idea to have someone with maybe your mom or a sibling. If you can't find someone you should still go cause you might not get another chance but if you go alone try to avoid dark areas and bring protection like mace or a l small glock (gun) in your purse
00 Reply Depends on the cost. Typically if I were going somewhere with a group it would be a joint effort to pay for the trip or hotel. If it’s affordable for me to go alone I’d go; if not I’d scrap the plans

+1 yI always make plans with the foresight that everyone else could drop out at any moment. Anything worth doing with friends is also worth doing solo. Depending on the activity I might meet other people anyways.

Edit: certain trips I might not do solo out of safety concerns. In third world countries with high crime or terror threats its obviously good to have strength in numbers. But I haven't yet sought out such high-risk trips, so for something like a week or two in Western Europe I can't imagine safety risks being high enough to justify a last-minute cancellation.
- +1 y
Edit 2: I'm sure safety concerns are different for female travellers. Don't tell strangers where you're travelling to or from; in fact, don't tell strange men that you're travelling at all. At the most just say you're meeting friends, which implies "backup" isn't far off. Most people you'd encounter are probably kind and reasonable and wish no harm upon you. But if you start with the assumption that anyone COULD be a predator, it makes you more prepared in the unlikely incident that you encounter an ACTUAL predator. If you assume a good person is a predator and are proven wrong, you've not lost anything. But if you assume a predator is a good person then you have everything to lose. So being generally risk averse around strangers is generally advisable.
And in general you wanna watch your six when leaving one venue or entering another, be aware of anyone following you out of bars or restaurants etc, especially in quiet parking lots and whatnot. If you can park somewhere with line of sight to a busy public area, or even the entrance of the venue you're attending, then all the better. If you think someone is following you in their car, then check your GPS for dead-ends, make a full loop or two around the block, and if they're still tailing you, plot a GPS route to the nearest police station and gun it there.
That said you'll probably have no issues, most trips are not dangerous statistically speaking, but being aware of your environment will reduce the chances of you "becoming a statistic".
No. I've watched too many real crime documentaries and most of them involved someone traveling alone. Some predators are just waiting for an easy target.

I would absolutely go alone if I had to. Don’t miss out because of others. You’ll always regret it. Just be street smart.

02 ReplyDepends on what the destination is. If it's something I want very badly to see, I'll go alone. But if it's something I don't care about and the only reason I'm going there is to be with my friends and they back out, I'll back out too.
00 Reply888 opinions shared on Travel topic. I have gone on a trip alone after my friends backed out. To be honest I found it very relaxing & satisfying to do what I wanted when I wanted to.
