What do you think of Argentina implamenting my idea of charging tourists lower prices?

I suggested a few years ago on this website that Norway do this and people were laughing at me, now Argentina is doing exactly that. Why should tourists pay local rates if they are visiting from a country with lower wages.

My idea was a little different, because I was talking about lower marked rates and being able to pay with cash, but the concept is more or less the same, only catch is you need to have a credit card.

Aah I see. We'll let's see how that goes. What economical benefits do you see from this?
I'm not an economics wiz but my gut feeling is that it sounds not good.
But I have an argentinian friend; I'll ask him what he thinks about it from his perspective being there.

It brings more tourism to the country. Though it's mostly good for US, I honestly don't care about them

Hm. Like I said, I'm no economics wiz but that's how I see it going, especially for countries that rely heavily on tourism to boost their economy. Less money comes in from tourists, less goes to the businesses and people working in those businesses, less goes into the banks and less is then compensated by the banks into the businesses. But it still doesn't stop the decreasing flow of tourism money, so businesses can't necessarily pay for innovation, maintenance, more workers, expansion. Less money.

I don't think Argentina is comparable to the US. And if you think it's mostly good for the US, why wish for that system to be implemented in countries not like the US?

This would never fly in the US and I wouldn't want it to, and I agree that I'm a selfish hypocrite who supports policies that benefit ME. But why should a tourist who is coming from a country where wages are lower, pay local rates in places where wages are higher?

I know countries charge more for tourism. Although not with this new system you want. My hypothetical is if they adopt that system. I wasn't talking about what they do now.

I was thinking about who it actually benefits. And if you think, in the long run, it doesn't even benefit you the tourist. The quality will decline in time and where would be the incentive for you to visit those places? They would now suck, so how would it work out for you?
Another thing to keep in mind, countries have every right to do what's best for them. You're the one who wants to go there for a little while, they stay there and need to sustain their economy. So if you're the one who wants to go, you make sure you have the money for it. That's kind of on you ; no one is forcing you to go there, no one is forcing you to go somewhere you think is too expensive for you. Choose something within your budget.
