it is West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine. I have been there.

In the US proper, not counting territories and possessions, that would be Maine.

Don't try making it a trick question by bringing up the International Date Line. That's completely irrelevant. Besides, I think the entire US is east of the date line (but not east of 180 longitude).

I've actually seen this as a "trick question" more than once. Some people claim that the Aleutian Islands of Alaska are east of the rest of the country because it crosses the International Date line.

The word "East" literally derives from the direction the sun rises. Today is January 18 where I live. If the International Date line followed the 180 degree longitude exactly, then the sun would rise in the some of the Aleutian Islands on Jan 18 **before** it rises in the eastern US on Jan 18. Some people argue that this makes it east of the rest of the US.

You often hear about "the west" meaning Europe, the US, etc. You hear about "the east" meaning places like China, Japan, etc. The far points of the Aleutian Islands extend almost to eastern Asia. Geographically, historically, and genetically, the Islands are more closely associated with Asia than "the west".

Oh cool! Yeah thank you @DarkCarousel! I actually lived up there for a while when I was a kid and knew it was pretty far over there but I know that Hawaii is another time zone so I thought that it must be further over. But that is pretty interesting!

If we include territories, it's American Samoa, which crosses the date line in the Pacific, so that part of it is in the Eastern hemisphere.
