Just looking for something new to do in Vegas when I go next in a few weeks. I go a few times a year and just want to find some new things I may have not done or experienced yet.
What is your favorite thing to do when you go to Las Vegas?
if you don't like to gamble, and I really *don't*, check in advance for discount tickets for a "has-been" performer or musical act. You might catch a great performance by (a) performer (s) who is/are no longer charting, but a favorite from a couple of decades ago or more.
There are relatively inexpensive show from old celebrities, from actors to comedians to illusionists, in the sunsets of their careers, who you might want to check out before they leave this mortal coil. (I caught Rich Little one night and Wayne Newton another night recently, and I was able to see Ray Charles years ago before he passed away a few years later. I betray my age, lulz).
There are also the staple Las Vegas acts, like Penn and Teller or Cirque de Soleil, but these will be more pricey.
What is sad is that once upon a time, all the casinos had these great and (relatively) cheap bars, restaurants and buffets, which prices were kept down as they were used to entice the gamblers to come in. That sadly no longer seems to be the case, and now a good night out with meals and drinks in Vegas will now be more expensive than something comparable in your home city.
if you are there for work, try to research the night life in advance. I was stuck in boring "Continuing Professional Education" seminars all day in hotel ballrooms, so I tried to compensate by making the evenings fun.
For those who haven't seen the Volcano at the Mirage this will be the last year that you can. It will be demolished when Hard Rock starts construction on all the new structures on the property.
It is... Hard Rock is building the new guitar hotel tower and extending the casino to the street with a new boulevard rooftop pool as well. MGM is only licensing the Mirage brand to them for a total of 3 years so 2½ left but they will only use it til the end of this year because they chose to close the property down with all the construction planned which is going to last approximately 2 years. Pretty sure we will see a new Mirage in the future with perhaps an even bigger Volcano experience. Also the Tropicana will be demolished towards the end of the year or early next year to make way for the new ballpark and a new Bally's hotel and casino. So, for anyone who hasn't been there, go take in some Vegas history. It's the second oldest hotel and casino still on the strip.
You probably already know the obvious drinking and gambling lol. The Hello Kitty Cafe was a cute photo opportunity, not the best coffee ever but still edible. Have you seen the cirque de soleil? The Hard Rock Cafe was a really nice experience for us. First time I went to one.

That’s cool. I got myself a hoodie haha. I inherited a Hard Rock mug that’s older than me from someone who visited Australia and gave it to my mother. It’s my favorite mug :)
We just liked walking around and looking at the people lol. We have only been there once though. We aren't into gambling, but next time we go it would be cool if we found a new place to look around and check out.
I gamble enough to get the free offers from the casino loyalty programs, but not a big gambler. We go for the food and entertainment mostly. I love the people watching and all the things there are to do because you can truly have a different experience every time you go if you mix it up.
What do you get from the loyalty programs? And how much is enough? Lol people watching is our favorite. What has been the best place in Vegas to do that, in your experience?
Not much if you do the slots... like my second d time ever going there I took a budget of $500 to gamble with (slots only) and when all your little wins add up but you keep playing them back in that adds up to higher coin in amounts. So I took 500 and always walked away when I was up so I in the end I kinda broke even and still left with the $500 but the win/loss statements because I used the loyalty card said I had spent over $5000 coin in. The offers vary from place to place but I mean usually the only thing I pay for is my flight out there and food. I had one offer last year that was 3 comp nights (ended up with a comped suite), 2 kane brown concert tickets, $150 food and beverage credit and $150 in freeplay... and the offers vary based on your status and how much gambling you actually do. Almost always ger free room offers though or highly discounted depending on what events are going on. Best people watching spots have typically been around the Bellagio Fountains or the the Bellagio Conservatory. I also enjoy watching people in the Paris Casino because it's just a great vibe and atmosphere. Some of the bigger pool complexes make for great people watching as well... Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Caesar's Palace, and Mirage (Hard Rock).
Offers wise the MGM properties seem to have the better all around promotional offers... Caesars would be next. I use both and even do a full week there getting 4 nights free room with MGM and then 3 nights free room with Caesars... but it really just depends on what you spend at each. And anything you can charge to your room... do that! Have it all paid through the hotel charges with your rewards number attached to your room and it will build your offers through those points as well.
I've never been there, but I've talked to a guy who used to live there. There was a casino that offered a 777.
For $7.77, you could get unlimited king crab legs, and unlimited Heineken beer. I gave up on gambling, because I figured out that the odds were in favor of the house. lol
Have never been in Las Vegas, but was in Macau, gambling capital of the east, and of course I gambled, being a smart girl though, I took what I won, stopped at the right time and then went shopping and sightseeings with extra few hundreds.
Macau, even though is located in China and is considered to be the gambling capital of the east, has also very nice history.
Walking in Macau, I felt like I walked in Europe, as if it was a small corner of Europe in Asia, I felt at home.
Macau was colonized by Portuguese at some point in history and the architecture and spirit is very much European, southern European, strangely mixed with Asian, with the oceanic air coming from the shores of East China Sea and with the ruins of Catholic cathedrals, I’d say it’s one of the marvelous places in the world, as if someone time capsuled Europe and landlocked it at the outskirts of Asia.
However, it scared me that living there is actually dangerous cause if there’s a typhoon, whole Macau might get covered in water with the only exception of the lighthouse standing at the highest point of Macau.
