Are tropical waters warm?

If you've been in those waters, what do they feel like?

Not unless you're in a swimming pool in the summer in the afternoon. Sea temperatures in the tropics and subtropics (i. e. tropic of cancer) might be 85-87 F midday in the middle of July near the surface. If you were to go up the mid Atlantic to say 40N the sea temperatures would be roughly 82 F during the same time of day at the same time of year. It's not much of a difference in summer. Water has a high specific heat. It doesn't change temperature rapidly. It is a heat buffer. You also have currents like the Gulf Stream that carry warm waters swiftly north and that heat with it.
