Foreigners who live in Japan, what’s it like? What were your experiences and what new things did you learn?

I mean, if you can't handle the work life in a Western country, then don't move to Japan. The immigration process is terrible, and you won't get the same work benefits as a citizen. The work hours will be brutal, and it's not like a Western country where you can request your boss or talk back to them.

If they ask you to drink at midnight, you have to go out drinking with them, or it's seen as disrespectful to deny the bosses hospitality. If the boss tells you to do it that way, you have to do it that way, and you can't talk back or give him a more efficient way to do the task.

They don't care if you know a better way to get the job done; if you just suggest a better way to do the job, they will see it as disrespecting the hierarchy. If you say I worked from 9 to 5, okay, it's time to go home, they will laugh at you. You're not leaving at 5. You will get a bunch of extra assignments that will keep you there till 11 pm.

If you don't care about work-life balance, I guess it's okay.

I had a White American female friend who went there to study abroad. Her first host family had a really annoying kid and she could not get any homework done, despite the country's reputation for having strict parenthood. She ended up changing host families. She said she understood Japanese and would often hear locals talking shit about her on the train, and she said she would be followed by local men when walking home at night. She ended up dropping school, cutting her trip short and returning to the States. Her literal words were, "This is not, not, NOT a good place to live."

I lived in Japan, in various locations, some time ago. In general, they're extremely honest, polite, cooperative, the women are so sweet. The temples are incredibly beautiful, I spent time in Kyoto and visited all of them. What else? Cute is more important than cool to them which I adore, it's very safe. The food is unbelievably amazing.

The biggest negatives to me were the sexism (it's everywhere though) and I was groped a couple times. It's sad how hard they work and how much pressure is on the kids to get into university. Alcoholism is pretty prevalent and employees are pretty much owned by their employers, they must go out drinking after work in many cases, for example.

All in all though, I miss it. I love Japan dearly.

@KostasKouvalis Looking back, I think it's just that they're more open about it. Now, I feel misogyny is starting to get way worse here in Canada; possibly from the children of immigrants that come from countries with Sharia law (far far worse than anything in Japan). Sometimes they have multiple mothers (hidden as 'aunts' to immigration officials). Sometimes even child brides.

I read that Japan literally had to pass a law to make it illegal to sneak up skirt photos. And a news report on YouTube, where a drunk Japanese guy literally went into the women's toilet and stuck his cell phone over the stall, and all the girl did to him was delete his footage. No criminal charges or nothing.
Japanese girls and maybe other Asian girls seem soft when it comes to sexual harassment. If the worst punishment they'll face is a talking to or getting some footage deleted, Japanese men have no insensitive to not act how they really want. I assure you if we lived in a Purge like society, crime would be much higher.
On the flipside, I saw a YouTube video recently and Japanese girls are also sluttier than people think. And if this is the environment they're raised in, they think it's acceptable to do that to foreign women too.

I didn't know you live in Canada. What part? Yeah, that shit's real. I have a Muslim friend on here who lives in London. She said she went to mosque and men were staring at her feet and she said some random lady asked if she could take a picture of her, because she'd make a good wife for her son. She said she's never going to mosque again.

I don't know if you know our presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, but he's being labeled a "Nazi", because he said the U. S. should be taking immigrants from White countries.

Well do you have a better way of wording that? I didn't say being "slutty" is a bad thing. But in the video, this guy was asking Japanese girls about their body count and I was shocked by their numbers ages they lost their virginity as were most people in the comments. I knew Japan had a sex/fetish culture, but I never knew so many of them sleep around
