Which of these Italian cities to fly into/out of for honeymoon?

We are planning home bases (from North to South) in Genoa, Rome, and Naples. I’m not sure of the best order for the trip (above or the reverse order of those cities).

Anyone have experience flying into or out of either Genoa or Naples? I’m not sure how to choose the city of arrival/departure best aside from looking at times and prices when it gets closer, so am open to any other insight.

Here are a few things to consider when choosing which Italian city to fly into/out of for your honeymoon:

- Genoa: While it's the northernmost city, the airport is a bit smaller than the others. Fewer flight options and it's farther from key cities you'll visit like Rome. Might be harder to get to from the US as well.

- Rome: Fiumicino Airport in Rome is one of the largest and best connected in Italy. Tons of international flights come here daily. Very easy to fly into and out of Rome. Good central home base to see Rome and travel south from there.

- Naples: The airport is quite busy but smaller than Rome. You'll have flight options, but potentially fewer nonstop choices from the US. It's right in Naples which is lovely to end the trip, but a longer travel time to get to cities north like Rome vs flying out of there.

Given you'll be traveling north to south, I'd recommend flying into Rome and out of Naples. That way, your trip flows naturally from Rome down through the countryside to your finish in Naples. More flight options into Rome for your arrival as well.

I would personally fly into and out Rome. I'm not particularly fond of that airport, but Rome has direct connections to the U. S. (which is where I assume you're flying from). You'll have to backtrack, but trust me, it's easier to just book a flight in and out of the same city.

I went to Italy last year, and honestly the only one these cities worth visiting is Genoa. I would avoid Rome like the plague ( though nearby Tivoli is worth a visit). And Campania is worth visiting, but I would stay in a smaller town, and not Naples. Though Positano was a bit of a tourist trap. But Pompeii and the islands are worth visiting. Though if you're visiting Genoa, than maybe you can visit Cinque Terre instead of Amalfi. And I would substitute Rome for Venice, especially if it's a romantic holiday, and maybe even do a couple days in the Alps.

Firstly, I recommend not using a travel agent. You can do it yourself and save money in the process.
Secondly, I would check flights to see if it’s best to book a round trip flight from one hub or fly into one city and back out from another. The high speed trains make it very easy to travel from city to city. As for the itinerary, this was mine: Rome > Venice > Florence > Amalfi Coast. You can take a day trip to Tuscany while you’re in Florence and then visit Capri, Positano, and Sorrento while in Amalfi, depending on how long your trip is. I was in Italy for two weeks.

Depends on the season. Genoa is the coldest. Naples and Rome are more south, so hotter. Inside Italy, also consider the train to travel between cities. High speed trains are often as fast if you take all times into account, and more relaxing.
