There are definitely some people, my mother included, who would dress like that everywhere.

Well, this is how Continental soldiers and sailors dressed in battle, even in very hot days.

I know Nicky Hilton married a Jewish guy and I have never seen her in bathing suit photos when she goes to the beach so it could be a cultural thing. I think some religious groups go to the beach fully clothed and only dip their feet in the water.

First thing is that you would get very hot... the black clothing would absorb the sun's UV rays. Then you wouldn't fit in.

And they were hot. I wore body armor and a 60-80lb pack. And I was hot. Changes nothing WHY you're wearing it. Still hot.
