Do you think the internet has had a more possitive or negative impact on travel?

To me, it's a little bit of both. On one hand, websites like Google Maps and Trip Advisor have allowed people to discover more obscure places that they may not have otherwise. It also allows people to look at reviews of businesses and attractions before visiting them. It's also made navigation easier.

On the other hand, I think booking services have made some aspects of it tricky. It used to be you could just pull up to a hotel, campsite or a ferry and get a spot right then and there, but now people are booking things up months in advance, which has completely ruined the concept of backpacking and traveling on a whim.

A useful feature is Google Street View , it let's you see what a place is really like and not just what the tourist board wants you to see. I reckon it's killed more than a few destinations.

Even good online reviews are bad, the minute a quite little beach gets on a top ten list it gets swamped and loses its charm.

definitely positive for me... all tickets, hotel booking and related stuff I do online, no more standing in queues

You definitely can still travel with minimal planning, it’s still what I usually do. Just need some flexibility

I despise Trip Advisor. They put people I'm danger 'cuz they took down posts about violent crime because they weren't "family friendly". The world isn't family friendly.
