Should the exit row passengers on planes be selected?

Back in the day flight attendants would stereotype based on who looks like they could handle an emergency... Now you pay $150... I see people that occupy them that clearly would not be my first choice if shit hits the fan. What do you think?

Gone are the days of women and children first.

I think flight attendants should have the power to put people where they want.

I was moved by a flight attendant to swap seats with a couple of girls aged 12 &13 that were flying on their own that were being leered at and spoken inappropriately by some creep in the seat beside them. She made the excuse of a window seat and a mistake on their tickets but she and the other attendant leveled with me.

Flight attendants DO have the power to relocate passengers. If a frail person who couldn't handle the required task was sitting next to the exit row door, it would be wise for the attendants to move that person.

I don't know what airlines you've been flying, but in the U. S. they usually ask you if you can assist in case of an emergency. If not, they'll move you. I only even saw one old sick lady request to move. Me and my mom have been seated there before and just said "yes". Exit rows are sometimes more comfortable, and let's be honest, the odds of having an emergency are quite slim, so most people don't bother asking to move.

There isn't always going to be a sully flying the plane. It's not the same but I would point you to the captain of the concordia

I've been on four plane crashes in my work. People don't realize that they don't die in a plane crash, they die in the fire that ensues after. Look it up if you don't believe me. Risking life for leg room and $150 is not right.
