When you’re flying, do you talk to people or stick to yourself?

Question

Some people chat a storm with random people on flights or in the lobby. Others stick to themselves and just play on their phone or read a book. Which are you?

I hardly fly all by myself.

My husband & I usually have some important things to discuss.

When we're not talking about business or family issues, the chat grows larger when other passengers chime in because the topic interests them too.

Nonetheless, we give each other the chance to shut our eyes for some much-needed rest.

I stick to myself. I enjoy my solitude

Once, an older man decided to talk to me, and out of courtesy I had to sit there and listen to his stupif stories with his godawful breath.

If you're gonna be an extrovert, at least wash your smelly snout , your fat trunk. And wash it thoroughly 😡

If the person next to me wants to talk, I will talk to them if they're not a creep. Otherwise, I don't bother them and don't want them to bother me

Overseas, I'd keep to myself. In the US, I will talk if I feel the other person is open to it, but with a few caveats:

1. They have to have some level of social ability and be somewhat interesting/fun.

2. I will not talk the entire flight unless it's a short one, because it's annoying to other people.

3. If they are weird, awkward, etc. I will talk just enough to be polite, and then excuse myself and put in my ear buds or read.

Some people have no social sense and think everybody wants to listen to them (especially elderly people). It's very easy to say "Hey, nice to meet you, but I have some reading I'd like to catch up on. Hope you have a great flight". Or "It's been great chatting with you, but I need to catch a little downtime before I reach my destination". It's not rude, but it sets a clear limit that most people will catch on to.

Obviously, if I were traveling with family or friends, I'd interact with them. But I try to keep things quiet, like watching movies together.

As for me when I take to the sky’s when it comes to talking I usually talk to anyone who talks to me & if I’m sitting next to someone I always at least say hello & take things from there. The last flight I was on the seat next to me was empty & a flight attendant asked if she could sit with me & we talked the whole time & it paid off because she brought me drinks & snacks & hour before she served the rest of the passengers.

Depends if I feel comfortable with the person sitting next to me.  Depends if they feel like talking.  A good conversation can make the flight go by faster though.

I’ve never been on a flight by myself before. I’ve always sat near whoever I’m traveling with.

but if I did sit next to a stranger, I probably would keep to myself. If they talked to me, I would respond of course. But if I ended up sitting next to a yapper who tries to talk to me the entire flight, I just might have to knock myself out

I tend to stick to the left side of ERJ-175s, so the closest person is across the aisle. When I'm on a A319/321, it depends on how attractive she is.
