How was your summer?

Labor day is a week away. Did you do anything fun this summer? Was there something you really wanted to do that you got to do?

It was actually pretty shit. All of June it was raining. And then in July I had to move to my new apartment so I was stressed and I couldn't really enjoy it as much as usual and now it's already cooling down. I did have good times too. I went swimming in the lake a few times. I met my dad for the first time in ages and it went as well as you could hope for, but I don't know things just pass so fast now. I used to go play beach volleyball almost every day and it felt like summer lasted for ever and now I blink and it's over. I might never have that feeling again where it's just sunny every day and you're chilling and you feel like it's gonna be like this for ever. I miss that. Maybe I should move to a place where it's always warm so it doesn't feel like time is passing by so quickly XD. But I'm happy with the development in my life. I still need to find the right balance of working on what's important to me and doing things just for the moment and the memories.

It just feels like it is over to me. I ask this question every year and then look towards the future. However the famous columnist Bob Greene wrote that summers are like pebbles in a jar and we only get so many of them.

when I met my hubby … he had a work list in his head and I was never on that “list”… he kept himself so busy… calendar filled up… it’s so sad to see how many live … to make sure the calendar is filled up and tell others that we are so busy…

Took 4-5 yrs… to learned the list is to put ourselves in a hamster wheel …

now we just get up and enjoy a cup of tea/cappuccino … go out… stop and smell the flowers … we can never return time that how it’s a blink of an eye… that the days/weeks/months pass us by.

I worked my butt off all summer, both in my clinical externship, as well as at work at the Rape Crisis Center. Although it's very stressful and heartbreaking work, it's extremely rewarding. Especially when a woman gives you a hug and thanks you, saying that she couldn't have done it without you. (in truth, she probably could. But it is still nice to hear). I did get a three day vacation early this week, that really helped. But I don't think I'll get another proper vacation until I graduate December.

@lightbulb27 Well the psychology office where I do my externship, is educational, so no it’s not technically a “volunteer” position, as I’m paying tuition to be there. As for my job at the Rape Crisis Center, they DO pay me, but I anonymously donate my salary back to them as I don’t need the money, but they really do.

With my job I don't have much choice but to take holidays in September, but it's kind of nice. Everything is still open but not as busy. I was attending a adult daycare last November though with a recent outbreak of COVID at the center, stopped going. Plus my brother has COVID and I recently got a Sinus infection as well. Honestly can't do anything cause of this 100 degree weather though if it wasn't humid, probably be outside doing yard work around the house. Been cleaning the house since my brother had boxes with junk in my room.

This was a lousy summer. I had no time to do anything enjoyable. My wife ended up at the hospital for a week. Then they sent her to a rehabilitation center an hour away. After I work a full day, I go home to feed my animals then drive an hour to visit her. Spend 3 hours with her then drive an hour home to clean the house and have dinner then go to sleep to do it again the next day.
