How long did it take to RENEW your PASSPORT?

My US passport was set to expire early next year, and my wife and I are planning on traveling internationally next year, so it was time to renew my passport. I heard horror stories of the US State Department taking up to 6 months to renew a passport, so I wanted to renew long before I needed it.

I filled out the forms and sent my old passport, forms and check in to be renewed in mid-August, just a few weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised when my new passport arrived just nine (9) days later.

To clarify. My renewal application was not an expedited request. It was a standard request, sent through the mail. I was kind of impressed that it only took 3 days to get to the processing center in Philadelphia.

Interestingly, my old passport arrived in a separate mailing 3 days later, with holes punched in the main page to indicate it has been canceled.

I've never waited that long for my new US passport. It's always gone (for the two times I've had to renew it) very smoothly and expeditiously. Just make sure that, if one is traveling internationally, your passport has to have at least 6 months left or the country you are trying to enter may not let you in. Good travels!

Earlier this year, I got my FIRST passport in just 23 days! And that was without expediting it. So things are going a lot quicker than they were. I was surprised to get it that fast for sure. I booked a cruise right away just to celebrate. LOL...

here in Ireland they have emergency renewals. One that is the same day and one that takes 2 weeks.

The last time I had to renew it was during COVID and it took 3 months. My original passport was a few weeks.
