Should I go Bali or Korea for spring break 2025? Please help me decide?

So I'm deciding between Bali or Korea for next year spring break 2025

So for the Bali trip, it's for a sociology class that would be for two weeks (March 13-March 30, 2025). We'll be living with a host family like we're the locals. For the most part, I'm told we'll be going to temples, do prayer rituals, help out with the local community, learn more about their economics (tourism). I'm also told they have restrictive diet mainly consisting of vegetables & fruits.

The total cost of this Bali trip is $2,000 (accommodations, meal plans, & main class activities will paid for within the $2,000 price). I would need to pay for the flight ticket by next month (Dec.) but they'll reimburse me. The class also gets a grant that will help pay for the trip too ($500 for undergrad & $1,000 for graduate), the remaining balance for trip should be paid in cash two weeks prior the Bali trip.

While Korea trip, it's just for fun. I will pay out of pocket for it of course and I was thinking of going with my sister. I was thinking of flight dates around March 17-March 22, 2025 since that's my spring break next semester. I was looking up on Jeju air and I had estimated around $323 or $343 sum round trip for one week in March (around those dates listed above earlier). I had friends who've been to Korea before told me that I can just live off the convenience stores for food since they're so cheap. I was told to check out their Airbnb too since they would be cheaper to stay at. And a lot of cool places to check out there too such as the Gyeongbokgung palace, starfield library, cool & unique cafes, etc.

I've never been to either Bail or Korea. However, my heart is torn on which place to go for next year spring break 2025. Please help me decide lol. For Bali trip, I have to use all of my next paycheck plus some of my savings while for Korea trip, I can pay the roundtrip now with half of my next paycheck & just save up some money for accommodations, food, etc. next year.

I really liked Korea and Jeju has the best fried chicken place in the world :) Yes the food is not that expensive but I wouldn't live on convenience store food the Korean food is way too good to miss out on. In Jeju things like Korean barbecue are cheaper than in Seoul so you can definitely get some good food without braking the budget. And Korea also has a great culture of eating together if you just buy some food and go back to your room you'll miss out on that.

I've never been to Bali but it sounds like a good option too and you're getting discounts on the trip. You have to figure out what you want.

Well, Bali is way too touristic but weather wise, much better than Korea, which can still be a little chilly in March. Although, Jeju is a semi tropical island that has a more temperate climate is a nice destination, if you don't mind the mass of Japanese tourists that go to Jeju (old name Cheju) for their wedding.

A nice place to go on Jeju is the extinct volcan on the Southern tip, Mt. Hallasan. It takes about 30 minutes to climb on top of it but the view from there is fantastic.

On the foot of the volcano, you can still see the old women that go diving for mussels and if you are already in Jeju, don't miss the Manjanggul Lava Tube.

If you are in Seoul, you can make a day's excursion to Panmunjom, the border that separates South Korea from North Korea or go to the Korean Folk Village, about 30 miles South of Seoul where you can see a typical countryside village from a century ago.

Bali because a more formally organized trip is better for a foreign country. You will be with a group of other Americans, and most likely, your host family will speak English and can help you navigate the area. You will also be more immersed in their culture because you’ll be attending many local events.

Wait, do you live in Japan or something? 'Cuz there's no way you found round trip tickets to Korea for under $400 from the US.

I would personally do the Bali trip. 2 weeks is a proper vacation and if the school is paying for it, you should take advantage. You also won't have to worry about logistics and you'll experience things you'd never be able to experience simply as a tourist. My school never organized trips like that.

I'm from Guam lol. I found the round trip tickets on Jeju air app. My friends who've been to Korea have recommended it. The school would pay for half of the Bali trip along with the accommodations, meal plan, and our daily activities but I still need to pay for my ticket (which would be reimbursed to me later on) by next month the ticket to Bali is more than my paycheck. I only get a monthly stipend from my job. I'm having such a hard time deciding which to choose lol. Both options are good.
