Can you sleep during a flight?

Seems no one I've talked to really has this problem, for me I can't sleep for long during a flight. And I HATE the feeling of waking up and suddenly realizing I'm so far from the comfort and safety of my bed, thousands of feet up in the air.

I do long-ass 9-hour flights to Japan and back to the States. I've never been able to sleep on one. I always end up just awake and drinking drinks. I like if I get a window seat because I can just stare out into the nothingness there above the clouds.

Daydream about clapping some alien cheeks.

In fact before long flights i "break" my sleep pattern to cause me to need sleep during the flight.

Those don't worry me, even up there is safety. The chair is soft like a mattress and even leans back! Comfort.

Far from home is true, but i don't feel homesick because my home will be wherever i will stay at destination.

I'm unable to achieve deep sleep on a large airliner because I'm usually nervous when I fly since I haven't completely overcome my fear of flying on large airliners.

Yes, on my last flight from Mallorca to Gdańsk I slept from start to landing, but I had few hard party nights before going to airport.

I have not been on a plane in over 20 years but I used to be able to get some sleep on a plane. I used to sleep during overnight car rides sometimes too. Usually waking up in the median strip.

You are not alone. My wife and daughter have problems sleeping on flights, no matter how long they are and whether they fly through the darkness of night.

Me, on the other hand, I have no problem sleeping on flights, though I must admit on long overnight flights, I usually sleep in 2-3 hour stages, wake up, then sleep some more.

I wish I could sleep on flights but I can't because I'm 6'4 and my knees are touching the chair in front of me which is really uncomfortable. I have to sit in a place where I have more space ( like the seats where the emergency exits are placed ) or I will have to sit in a place where my legs can be stretched in the lane where you can walk

I literally never was able to fall asleep during any economy class flights. 4 of those trips (2 forth, 2 back) were over 24h long. I came to the hotel or home and crashed immediately to the bed.

The discomfort in those seats make it impossible.

Easily. I slept basically from takeoff on a flight last week. It was a business trip and I had just finished working, so that may have played a part.

I was commuting to another city for work and found it was important to stay cosy warm. I managed to sleep through take off and landing on one flight!

Unfortunately not, unless I am completely destroyed. In a flat-folding business seat I can at least doze off for a bit.

Not at all. Even in first class, with seats that fold into beds, I can't sleep on an airplane.

I can only nap but one time i actually slept but not so deep. I didn't really feel irritable at least.
