Mexico City is the number one destination for people that want to disappear. I guess if you are on the lam or are going through nasty divorce it might be something to consider. I heard it is like a black hole. People go in but they don't come back out.

I think if you stay in decent hotel and do not go out at night and limit your contact with people you should be okay.

i wouldn't be too worried about mexico city, but i would still be cautious. it would be relatively safe but there is still a big threat that you could be kidnapped. if you'd like a better experience, then i'd suggest visiting a coastal area

I have been to Mexico City many, many times. I’m just fine. I have been to a lot of dangerous cities. You just have to be careful and be wary. Stick to the good sections of the cities.

Oh, and instead of a taxi there, hire an SUV with a driver from a reputable company. That is very good advice, you should seriously take it. Perhaps Uber black car is an acceptable alternative, I don’t know on that though.
