  Although I guess swimming in lakes and the sea comes with different challenges. It's easier to stay afloat in the ocean but you also have to deal with waves.
  
  I grew up around the Laurentian Great Lakes and there you get the worst of both: you get tossed around by the waves but you also sink quickly.

Both are nice as long as they're clean. Lakes are great because there isn't much to worry about in them (at least in Canada). Oceans are better for the skin, but it depends on many things... how nice the sand is, how wavy it gets, the likelihood of there being sharks and jellyfish, etc.

Tough choice but I think it would be lake for me. Fresh water is so relaxing and you do not climb out feeling a bit grimy and your eyes dont hurt. Plus lets face it there are no sharks in lakes too lol

I've done both multiple times: swimming in a lake in Finland after a sauna, swimming in the sea during the hot summer days. I think they both have their place.
