Do you think it's easier to swim in a lake or in an ocean?

Lakes (as a general rule) are more placid than the ocean but since saltwater is more dense, you're more buoyant than you are in lakes so you don't have to fight to stay afloat.

Although some places like the Dead Sea give you the best of both because you're buoyant and the water's placid. Meanwhile, in the Great Lakes you'll get the worst of both because they are quite turbulent but you'll sink in them like you'll sink in any other lake.

Interesting.. I suppose the lake would be a better option for cardio activity since you have to rely more on staying afloat. But I always feel as if I have to work extra hard to stay afloat when waves are constantly crashing on my head and the current is pulling me in.. I’m definitely using more legs muscles in the ocean..

hmm.. I do like a nice calm lake though for swimming purposes. And the ocean if I have a boogie board by my side

Lake 100%. The water is more still, it’s not brackish and so doesn’t irritate your eyes and skin and nips. You don’t have to think about the Abyss that is the ocean and all its creatures. There are no waves to pummel you down.

Well logically speaking, since the density of sea water is greater than that of fresh water, the swimmer experiences higher buoyant force upwards and feels lesser weight and therefore it should easier to swim in sea water compared to fresh water. However, I have no experience with lake swimming, so I can't accurately judge/compare

I would think undoubtedly it's easier to swim in a lake as you're generally not swimming against currents or waves.

I swim all the time, and lakes are far easier. Swimming in the ocean is hard work.

I prefer to swim in chlorinated aquatic venues

Salt water is much more buoyount and easier to swim in a relatively calm area

Okay, true. Was thinking more of calm lakes without big waves. Actually probably thinking of ponds.
