What's a travel destination you thought would be great but when you went it completely disappointed you?

For me, it was New York City.

I think NYC is definitely overrated. I can't even remember my time there other than Times Square which was kind of dead when we went.

Maybe it was because it was the summer and most people were probably at the beach but it wasn't jammed pack like I thought it would be. Not that I'm complaining about that, but it wasn't a great experience.

@Simslover92 Last year I went to Germany, an was somewhat disappointed in PARTS of the trip. LOVED the BMW plant tour, also the HUGE, FABULOUS, CATHEDRAL AT COLOGNE! Berlin was a large city much like U. S. cities. When we went into the Bavarian Alps... I was awestruck... it was absolutely priceless to see how spectacular the Alps are. I would love to ski there.

So I have to qualify my answer... SOME parts of the trip were amazing but I was NOT completely disappointed by ANY of it... THE huge train depot in Frankfort was enough to really boggle the mind as it was like Grand Central Station in NY.

i went to New york city fo 4th of July. This was 2008. I saw the Yankees play in old Yankee stadium before it was bulldozed, saw the Bronx Zoo, Empire State Building, Times Square, Macys, St Patrick's Cathedral, Ellis island, and a good fireworks display. However even though people told me I would be disappointed I went to the Statue of Liberty. Even a cynical old bastard like me couldn't help but shed a tear.

Valparaiso. It was always advertised as "the San Francisco of the South America". Mind you, this was back when San Francisco was known for its colorful townhouses and hippie culture, and not its tweakers, crime and homelesses, though it's even more fitting now. There were only like 2 nice neighborhoods, but the rest of the city was practically a favela. We were gonna go there ourselves by bus and even spend the night, but I'm so glad we ended up just taking a day tour. While most of the group went for lunch, we went "exploring" and only found out after we got home that several tourists had been robbed in that neighborhood.

That's actually good to know, because for our honeymoon, I was thinking about NYC around Thanksgiving. I've always wanted to got to NYC. My other choice was Denver for Christmas, that's been my dream since I was little. Denver it is! 😂

Much of the middle of the USA was a bit dull and boring. But that's like anywhere. The places where people live aren't full of excitement fortunately
