What's the FARTHEST NORTH and SOUTH you have ever been?

and received a lot of interesting feedback.

So let's ask the similar question for East-West...

What's the farthest East and West that you've ever been?

So that we're all using the same reference, West and East are as shown in the attached map.

And, to keep it simple, we're talking about being on the earth, not flying in a plane.

FYI, the farthest West I have been is Anchorage Alaska and the farthest East is Brisbane Australia.

I have been many, many places… all over the world. Using that map, the furthest east would be Sydney Australia. On that trip I flew around the world and was in Northern Europe (Copenhagen) then down to Sydney and back to the USA going east. Next year I will cruise across the Pacific through many of the islands east of Australia and east of New Zealand. I will be in NZ as well.

Furthest west on that map would be Skagway, Alaska. Next year we will traverse the entire pacific on a ship going to many small islands and large ones too.

I missed the whole North South question so I will add that for north it is Oslo Norway and for south it is Antarctica, specifically the Antarctic peninsula between the bottom of the E and S of the word WEST on your map.

You have done well. You have only missed on being furthest east and furthest west by 30 degrees both sides.

I have the advantage of having gone to Fiji which is 178 E. Vancouver is the furthest west I have been at a disappointing 123 W.

My gap is 2 + 57 = 59 and yours is 60. So I narrowly edge you out.

What I liked about Vancouver is that I arrived before I left Melbourne.

@RavVid I know what you mean about Melbourne to Vancouver. I worked on a multi-year project in Hong Kong and took many Hong Kong to Chicago flights. The flight almost always took off in Hong Kong at 0905 and landed in Chicago at 0900, same day.

It's funny isn't it? Not so much jet lag as you only need to reset your calendar. The aspect that disturbs me in the Northern hemisphere is the sun is in the wrong position. My navigation suffers badly.

Curious are the Aleutian a place people go to see or are they too cold and boring. I have only read of them in terms of WW2 and saw a news report on the GI's based there. They had all grown thick beards.

Anyway one of the island is in the eastern hemisphere so it would be most efficient way to chalk up the maximum degrees East-West.

I'm confused by yours now, because if you had to fly west to get to Japan, you must live in the US, but both Israel and Japan are in the eastern hemisphere. So the most west has to be somwhere in the western hemisphere

@KostasKouvalis I see what you mean. Going by the quadrants on Tom's map then, the furthest west I've been is Honolulu, Hawaii. The furthest east is Sapporo, Japan.

I never got high back in the day but i have been on every tallest elevation on and east of the Ozarks.
