Yes, I had a sputtering episode as well. Another one was relying on a gas station in a small village, where they'd run out of diesel. The only way was forward till the next town, through the woods and with the car in neutral on every downhill stretch.

Yes, I had one if these cars as well. It would go very quickly from one quarter to empty.

My bike doesn't have a fuel indicator. It's basically guess work. I put the counter to zero when I fill up, then calculate how many km I can do on any given trip.
