Does the Philippines feel more like Asia, Latin America, Polynesia or Caribbean to you?

The weird mix of the Philippines gives it less culture shock value also because of westernization and the lack of artistic fusion, it makes everything "familiar" and just direct imports losing it's culture shock value. Pre dominantly a Christian nation, the identifiable Spanish influences with obscured diversity suppressed and stereotyped by capital cities. That's why a lot feels unmixed and with Christianity and westernization being the dominant culture. But still, we get plenty of historically Chinese and now Korean migrants and investors, many Islamic groups from the south even moving to the north, Asian style street foods, wet markets, diverse outfits, Asian style sky scrapers, poverty, noodle dishes and rice everything with people generally looking like Austronesians also the dense city crowds, and loud motorcycles everywhere. That's why it gets plenty of mixed opinions every time. But either way, don't mind. They're all cool.

Faded buildings, crowd, wires, motorcycles, vendors, I lowkey love that atmosphere.

The familiar white soft sands also found in Caribbean and Polynesia. And our beach bar culture is also a thing.

I've lived there (in the Philippines) for 19 years (from 2000 to 2019) and continue to visit every year since I returned to the USA.

Though the Filipinos are known for adopting and adapting various aspects from many other parts of the world, making the Philippines very diversified, the nation remains unique on its own.

However, the Philippines is still clearly very much Asian more than anything else.

Yeah but the problem is that Manila always glorify their colonial influences, their history dominating the history classes, media always represents their colonial aesthetics, actors/actresses are always mestisos, using their culture as a representation of the philippines as a whole leading to other groups feeling insecured and suppressed about their culture.

ON the other hand, Purists will just be purists, promoting the unevolved culture that's why many other cultures today don't even try to evolve and selectively choose Spanish or western influences on their culture to make them contemporary, convincing themselves that their culture is good as is which is why they just adapt with the katipunan style aesthetics like the barong tagalog worn nation wide because it's more contemporary. An example like the visayas, specially in Cebu, their heritage is dying. Sinulog is getting so random with the pop cultures now.
