When did you get your first car?

I got my driver's license as soon as I turned 16 in Jan, 1970. My parents immediately gave me a blue, 2 dr, 1966 Rambler American hard top with an automatic trans.

Actually, about a half a year earlier, my dad bought me a pristine, cherry red, 1963 Chevy Corvair convertible with automatic trans, a black top and interior. But my mom drove it to the mall one day and it got stolen. I only got to drive it once with my learner's permit.
That was a beautiful little car. 😢

I don't know if I’d consider it “mine” but my first was a hand-me-down, I was probably age 19 or so. Just a car within the family I could typically drive at anytime.

I think the first car I technically had in my name was one I bought off my dad, his MINI Clubman S… had the turbo in it. It had the best blind spots lol it was like looking out of a fish bowl. You could see everything.

I still don’t have one but this was never because of laziness. I got diagnosed with epilepsy and a Hashimoto's Encephalopathy at the age of 17. Between the ages of 17-26 seizures kept happening every year despite me taking medication. I have also done infusion now. Only this year I was medically cleared and allowed to go for my drivers license because I have been seizure free for one year now.

I was 19 and I don't rember what car it was. I think it was a plymoth. It was a nice shade of prurple. but very old. I was just thrilled that I had something get me around.

I grew up in a major metropolitan area. There was cheaper public transit everywhere and I didn't have to worry about parking or drinking and driving. Until I got a job in the burbs.
