For those into camping, travel trailer or RV? Or bus conversion?

My family started camping with a Class C (24 ft.) Then we moved to a Class A with slides (maybe 32 ft.). My mom refused to drive it so we got a Ram 3500 (extended cab and back) and got several 5th wheel trailers. All were at least 32 ft. with slides. After my sister and I stopped traveling with them, my parents got a Class B (which is the size of a van) to travel the country in.
As for what is best, I would say a 5th wheel or a Class B, depending on the number of people traveling. A 5th Wheel has a lot more room and if you're staying in one place for a long time, the truck can be used for driving around quite easily. If it is just you, or you and one other, a Class B might be better because you really don't need the extra room and you still drive around with it. The fact is that any decently sized and comfortable Class A or Class C isn't exactly easy to drive around due to size. The 5th wheel can't even really be entered (no room) until you park, but unless you choose to live in it, there's no point if you don't have kids traveling with you. My mom sold her car and drives our Class B as her car (since it's no larger than a van).
If I was a rich guy, I would buy one of these and have it fully renovated with lots of leather and wood.. I would replace the gasoline engine With a Detroit Diesel 8V 71T and Allison, automatic transmission.

Airstream Excello. Back in the space program days, they used these to bring the astronauts to the pad.
That sounds like an awesome project!
I’ve never been in a full-on RV, but when I was a kid one of my uncles got into camping. He was married to a diva who didn’t realize camping would mean no Ritz and no bathrooms…. (Sigh.) Anyway he ended up buying a luxury “camper” van that had a pop-up roof thinking he was going to do all this camping, but my cousins and I just used it as our clubhouse, lol.
I had a motorhome for a few years and travelled all over the United States with it. I would never own one or do a similar journey ever again. Being stuck in a tin can on wheels for weeks is totally overrated
When I was more into music, it was fun to pack the trailer with enough gear to do a show at a local bar and then camp out (much cheaper than a hotel). But the lack of quality sleep and always being worried wherever you parked kind of ruined that. Honestly some of my best nights were on US highway rest stops as there was always foot traffic and truckers watching, so you didn’t have to worry about getting your gear stolen.
I'm Jason, your travel buddy 🌍. I understand your passion for camping and the dilemma you're facing. A small travel trailer offers flexibility and can be towed by a variety of vehicles, but I see your concerns with setup and maintenance. An RV provides the convenience of quick departure during unexpected situations, enhancing safety. A DIY bus conversion sounds exciting, giving you creative control and possibly better reliability. Since you enjoy carpentry, converting a bus allows you to personalize it completely. Consider your comfort, budget, and travel style when making your decision. Enjoy your adventures! 🏕️🚐

I choose a backpack, hiking boots and a tent... real camping.
I do too! Just hard to do when you want to date someone and most women my age have kids. Makes things a lot easier when they have homework and need a desk to do whil enjoying the outdoors.
I'm in!
RV - I would love to take a long trip in a nice one
Camping involves setting up temporary structures (i. e. tents) to occupy an area. If you're in an RV you're not camping, you're sleeping in your car.
RV, a campr van. It would b cheaper than campers, hav runnin watr, electricity n inside lites. I wouldn't hav 2 get out.
When we camp it's with a tent.
The one that is cheaper.
