What is the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you in the woods or while camping?

Not sure if I'd call it creepy... I was sleeping under the stars in a field, just in a sleeping bag. I woke up in the morning surrounded by cows. I was at ground level, and all I saw was a bunch of long legs - had to look up to see the bodies from underneath. The nearest one was not more than four feet away.

Another time I was camped out in the desert and there was a snake crawling around under my little pup tent. I was concerned because I know the stories of snakes crawling in your sleeping bag are real. They are cold blooded and will crawl in to get warm.

I was camped out another time with a buddy. My buddy woke up with some great big dude standing over him, straddling his sleeping bag. The guy insisted we give him a ride someplace, so we did. We were out in the middle of nowhere. This guy just happened to be out there too.

I slept in the ground in a field. I was inspected by a black bear in the total darkness. They can't see either. They go by smell. I woke up when it nudged me to see if I was alive. It stayed near as I went to my car. Then he scent marked my car and tried to look in the back window but it was opaque from fog. He left paw prints on my trunk lid.

When I got up at sunrise, my snacks and beer were gone. The bag and remaining beer were nearby. All if the tall grass for 10 feet around where I slept was flat from the bear circling me. I was probably in some danger but didn't hurt me. I won't do that again.

Being a danged grown-assed man, some years ago, I still managed to fall for somebody telling a campfire story about 'bad guys' being loose in the vicinity of our camping area.

After I went to try to sleep in my tent, I thought that every frickin' sound I heard around us was those 'bad guys' comin' in to get us.

I was completely unable to convince myself that the campfire story was a bunch of BS.
