What's the scariest thing you've ever experienced?

Having my wisdom teeth 🦷 pulled. I had gotten myself so worried about the procedure because I had watched a lot of YouTube videos and read experiences of how others’ dental visit went. I was prescribed a Valium the night before and the morning of my pulling. When I got there, I got the nitrous followed by the Novocain shot, and it was not bad at all. I couldn’t feel a thing. What hurt was actually holding my mouth open for a while. When those drugs wore off though, ouch 😓 I had the worst headache of my life for hours. My mouth was sore and I had to wait so long for my prescription to be filled after. About two summers ago, I had another scare. I was playing ball with my son and I remember I was going to try and do a roundhouse kick and I hit the ground hard. Turns out, I tore my meniscus in my left knee. It got X-rayed and thankfully, it wasn’t broken. The doctor wanted to do surgery but I was so scared of that, I opted for just over-the-counter pain meds and crutches. I was so miserable 😩 for a month until it got well enough so I could actually sleep and get off the crutches.
I've done some pretty hairy stuff. I've been frightened lots of times. It's hard to pick one incident.
One thing that wasn't my fault was, when I was around 20, I was working as a janitor for a school district. I was actually in charge of sweeping, buffing and waxing the floors at the district headquarters. I worked from 3:00-11:00pm with an old guy who was the head janitor.
One night when we were leaving, we both headed for a door that led to the small parking lot that was in the center of the C-shaped complex.
I shoved the panic bar and threw the door open. 6 or so cops wheeled around with their guns pointed at me. Apparently a silent alarm had gone off in the audio visual building.
I had long hair and looked like a little ax murderer. As the door flew open and I saw the cops, I released the panic bar and slowly raised my hands. Thank goodness the old men was right behind me.
It was scary to have 6 startled cops all pointing their guns right at me. Luckily nobody got trigger happy.
Once on Halloween in the third grade me and my best friend at the time went trick or treating in her neighborhood and we got to this house at the end of the block and there this person sitting on the porch though I thought it was a stuffed dummy and after we were done getting our candy the person got out of their seat and chased us down the sidewalk and we ran as fast as our tiny eight-year-old legs could carry us and this went on for like 5 minutes before the person went to the house and after running we were so out of breath and even though I can laugh about this today at the time that was really scary
Almost dying from post miscarriage hemorrhaging. I could see my blood pressure plummeting in the machine as I slipped out of consciousness. Also the time I was chased through a forest by someone who wanted to rob me because they saw me pull money out of a bank machine.
It was in the dead of. nught too. They came out of nowhere in full olympic sprint mode too.

I was at the unemployment office and I was standing in line and somebody comes over the speaker and announces that a ford bronco in the parking lot was on fire. I realized that I had parked my Chevy blazer next to this I run outside and see the bronco fully involved. The front tires were on fire and the interior was engulfed in flames. I had to move my blazer before it too caught fire. The bronco was on the passengers side and I had to go through the passenger's door because somebody tried to steal it and damaged the lock on the drives side so it would not work. I could feel the heat on my back as I tried to unlock the door. I could hear people yelling at me not to do it. I finally got in and started it up and pulled out of the space just as the fire department showed up.
Hard to say honestly, I mean I am scared of heights so jumping out of air planes scared the shit out of me. But I did it 38 times in 8 years. So did it really scare me or just generate serious anxiety in me like every time. I mean I won't ever do it again, I promise.
Several times, things happened so fast to me I can't say I was scared in the moment. But thinking back on these events, I should of been freaked out, and its scary to me now... but standing in the door of that aircraft waiting on the green light, while my vision blurred and head spinning was super tough, but I been conditioned by then to manage fear.
The other day I was watching climbing documentary with these free climbers... I had to turn if off take a wslk... it was soo freaking me out watching these people hang off of the rocks with these one handed thumb nail grips. Seriously gave me nightmares.
When I was 7 and a half there was a eclipse and my mentaly unstable abusive father used his hunting rifle to look down the scope at it. He then pointed it at my mother, my older brother stood infront of her trying to stop him and was talking I stood infront of him I remember the look on his face before I stood infront he was gonna shoot when I stood infront his face changed and he gave a psychopathic smile and put the gun away.
It has only occurred to me now that the bullet could have killed all 3 of us.
I have honestly never felt genuinely scared for my life since this day and I have had multiple near death experiences it's given me a possibly unhealthy confidence in dangerous situations.
While I don't believe in it, I've been watching too much travel channel recently. They run those shows, just to get people to watch the channel so it's whatever. Anyway, we happen to have a lamp here at home that is very old. The bulb doesn't work very well (even if it's brand new) and we've even had it looked at to see if it could be replaced/fixed (the lamp itself). My mom likes it though I believe because it was her moms (her mom passed away at a young age).
Every time I look at the lamp, honest to god I think I see it turn off by itself. Again, I don't believe in the stuff but, I mean, how else would it be turning off and on by itself?
My mates lasagna , terrifying lol.
seriously though, a few times have been brown trouser moments or the potential to be,
landing in Basra while it was under rocket n mortar attack.
Doing aircraft recoveries and knowing at any moment, you could be shot at or were shot at.
doing close protection on various drives.
it’s not so much being terrified as being aware of it and more initially nervous than anything.
I was fishing in a small creek when a dead squirrel came floating along. I didn't see it until it was right in front me. It was very soggy and its lifeless eyes were staring up at me, scared the hell out of me. Needless to say I haven't gone fishing ever again.
When my brother barely restrained himself from plowing our mother clean through an exterior wall. Never, before or since, have I seen him so angry. To this day, I don't think either of them knew I was there, but I don't know which was scarier: the site of him on the verge of hurting her so badly, or the realization that he'd've been perfectly justified if he had.
There was my Mom, Dad., Sister, Me, and a Friend of the family... We were taking my mom to the dentist and were in this town looking for a parking spot and this elderly man had a medical emergency at the wheel and wrecked into this gas pump at this gas station his car went up in flames, all I can see is the paramedics bringing him out of his car I'm sure he was deceased... They evaluated the area cause the car was about to explode
when the cartels got me confused when someone they really wanted...
luckily for me, they wanted that someone alive... and not out (knocking on wood a million times)

Gun waved in my face by a bank robber as an unarmed guard, several people threatening me with knives.
Being actually stabbed once, being in a few nasty cycling accidents involving going under for surgery.
Waking up partially from a coma, muscles atrophied to shit and wired up like a Christmas tree, while being unable to speak or move. Thought I might have been locked in. I think that was the worst.
I had a conversation with my grandfather when I was 15, while their was a party going on. 10 years later I was just chatting with my mom. The subject came up about that party. We'll... it turns out that was not just a party. it was a family gathering. He had died a week prior...
Drug induced sleep apnea. Constantly waking up from a lack of oxygen because I stopped breathing when I fell asleep was disconcerting. Especially when I couldn't stay awake. Suffocation is my biggest fear.
Asking my childhood/ high-school crush out on a date, thoughts of rejection and making a fool out of myself getting tongue tiec or a giant fog in my throat so I wouldn't be able to speak proper English anymore peeing my. pants when she comes to the door and the list goes on and on and on funny how fast you're mind can go sometimes
Had to build up a lot of courage that day and constantly fight that "easy way" that just wanted to go back home
Hearing the sound of lighting striking a tree right in front of my house. It scared the shit out of me.
On the plus side, your lawn got extra fertilizer! ;- )
My son on life support after contracting bacterial meningitis 💔
@Flower7 thank you for being concerned about my son. He also contracted septicemia (blood poisoning), double pneumonia, bacterial endocarditis in his heart (infection) for which he had to have emergency surgery. They replaced his mitral valve with a the titanium one, sewed a bovine (cow) patch on his heart where the muscle was destroyed by the infection. He had a 50/50 chance to make it. He was in the hospital for 76 days, recovery for 6 months. He will have to be on blood thinners for the rest of his life. I went through without anyone there with us, so I was very afraid and alone. He was 18 and hen and is 44 now 💔😔🌹
Almost was in a air to air collision in a helicopter. I've had countless guns pointed at me. Been in combat
Surviving the crash of flight 232 in Sioux City, Iowa in 1989. I still have nightmares and break out in a cold sweat.
I am so glad you survived that ordeal. We still study the leadership of Capt. Haynes and the actions of the crew and passengers in CRM training. That terrible event has probably played a role in preventing other accidents happen. Just thought you might feel better to know that your suffering is not totally in vain or forgotten by professional crew members.
@northerngal From what I've heard, when faced with the same situation soon after the crash in simulators, no one got within 30 miles of the airport before crashing. I truly believe God sent us Captain Haynes that day as well as Dennis Finch. That entire crew are hero's. It really saddened me to hear of their passing. Thank you for the kind words.
The passengers played a huge role as well. Do not underestimate the part you played as well. Passengers are always part of the team.
@northerngal yes! I was dragged out by two men. The last thing I remember was hearing people praying and the flight attendants yelling "brace! Brace! Brace" and telling us to keep our heads down. The next thing I remember was two guys talking about not carrying me any further and getting some help for me. I asked them "how do I look"? The one guy said, "your left leg looks broke and you got a lump on your head but other than that, not bad for surviving a plane crash". The next 2, 3 days were a blure.
I cannot imagine what you experienced. My professional life has been spent trying to prevent the exact experience you had. But at the same time being prepared for it. I really cannot express adequately how happy I am to hear you survived and that training works.
Feeling like I was being followed walking home at night

My father's violent rage. I was abused by my father for many years. And that first time was the scariest moment of my life. Frankly asking women out is 2nd scariest even compared to that.
I have a few. Getting my cancer diagnosis was one of the worst.
I had a blood clot in my leg. I spent 3 days in the hospital. The doc said that the major cause was prostate cancer. So I go to an oncologist and get tested. I was really convinced that I had cancer and I had a long conversation with myself and told myself that I would not feel sorry for myself and I would take the treatments and get past it and come out the other side. It was than the oncologist came in and said "It's not cancer"
