Santorini is a great choice—those sunsets and white houses are magic. A few of the most beautiful places I’ve been:

- Banff, Canada – turquoise lakes, huge mountains, amazing hikes 🏔️

While Santorini is indeed a beautiful place, it is just way too touristic with thousands of cruise ship passengers flocking all at the same time to Santorini and wanting to take the cable cars up (or down). The alternative trip uphill with the donkeys and the pestilence of the dung left on those steps is enough to not want to take those poor animals.

One of the nicer places I have ever seen were the rice terraces of Banaue in the Philippines or the pristine beaches of the Maldive Islands and/or the Seychelles.

However, the problem is always the same: way too many tourists.
