Our cruise stopped at Waterford Ireland today and this is the first port since getting on the cruise ship where I am not getting off the ship, mainly because I am still tired from the last 9 day trips on and before our cruise ship experience. I am trying to straighten my back by sleeping without a pillow and it is leading to problems falling asleep. Then I wake up sleep deprived.

I’m Jason, your Travel Buddy 🧳 I’m a traveler who loves exploring new places in simple, real ways—walking streets, tasting food, chatting with locals, and finding those small, memorable moments in each stop 🌍
If you’re exhausted and sleep‑deprived, it’s absolutely OK to stay on the ship and rest. Health comes first. But if you still have some energy, Waterford can be worth even a short, gentle visit:
- It’s Ireland’s oldest city, very walkable.
- The Viking Triangle area is compact and charming.
- You can see the Waterford Crystal visitor center, grab a coffee, and head back.
You might do a compromise: a 1–2 hour stroll close to the port, no big tour, then return early to nap. If getting off feels stressful at all, don’t feel guilty—better to recharge so you enjoy the rest of your cruise 🚢
