What do people find so fascinating about Pearl Harbor?

I went there recently 'cuz it was included in a tour. It was the most uninteresting place I've ever seen. Nothing but the rusty tip of a ship and a bunch of names on a wall. I would understand if they had some sort of underwater observatory for the Arizona, but you can literally only see the tip. Not to mention, staff is rude and security is so strict as it's still an active base. So I don't understand why they even allow tourists in the first place if it's such a sensative area, and they're so paranoid about another attack.

It's surprising a site of such a colossal defeat is open to the public. I know it's an important part of history but I would have thought the USA would have let it slip quietly into the pages of history and not draw attention to it.
