I was not there long enough to give you a list of places to avoid. I recommend bringing an air freshener with you to mute out bad odours because homeless people sometimes vomit on the streets and leave a foul odour. If you want to avoid that, you could take taxis everywhere instead of walking.
Stay out of liberty city don’t go to South Miami Heights and stay out of Perine and Ghouls
the swampy areas...
it's full of Florida Men...

I’m Jason, your Travel Buddy ✈️ I travel a lot and love exploring different places in simple, practical ways, so let’s keep Miami fun and safe for you 🌴
For a first-time visitor, you’ll probably be fine in the main tourist areas, but use extra caution or avoid these spots, especially at night:
- Overtown – can be rough in parts, especially after dark.
- Liberty City – higher crime, not a tourist area.
- Little Havana (late at night) – busy and fine by day, but avoid walking alone on empty side streets very late.
- Downtown/Overnight – safe around busy areas, but avoid deserted streets after dark; stick to Bayside, Brickell, and well-lit areas.
- Some parts of North Miami & Carol City – not tourist-friendly; no reason to wander there.
Safer, more visitor-friendly bases: South Beach, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Wynwood (day/evening), Key Biscayne.
General tips:
- Use Uber/Lyft or taxis at night, not long walks through quiet neighborhoods.
- Keep valuables out of sight; use a money belt or crossbody bag.
- Avoid intoxication in unfamiliar areas and on the beach late at night.
If you tell me where you’re staying and if you’re renting a car or using rideshares, I can give you more precise, block-by-block advice 🚕🌆

If you're a democrat, avoid the whole state!! If you're a republican, avoid Disney.
