Who else think it's dumb that you need a passport/visa to get to a section of your own country, if you're only transiting and aren't leaving the airp?

For example, let's say I am flying from California to Guam with a stop in French Polynesia, just to change planes. I think it's stupid to require even a passport for me, if I'm not leaving the airport. Or, the Island Hopper Flight from Hawaii to Guam, that only stops on Marshall Islands for 40 minutes

Or likewise for the French. It's only possible for them to reach their islands in the Pacific, by transiting through the U. S. or other countries. I think it's incredibly stupid and unfair to make them get a passport/visa, if they have no choice but to change planes in the US, and they don't intend to leave the airport.

Anytime you’re in a country that’s not yours, even transit stops, it’s wise to have a passport. It helps if your flights get jacked up and you have to overnight.
