Can nude pictures of celebrities really be "sophisticated"?

If you haven't heard, there's a new skin mag on the market: It's called Treats and some are calling it the upper-class replacement for Playboy. Of course, the magazine's creators wouldn't want us to call it a "skin mag" as they believe it to be a cut above:

“Playboy is for men. I do this for women,” founder and Editor in chief Steve Shaw told FOX411. “I shot for Playboy, Maxim, FHM and it was just cheesy. Forcing some poor actress to pose seductively. In Treats, the goal is to show beautiful, artistic images. It’s sensual, not sexual.”

So, what do you think? Still just nudie pics for dudes or is this REALLY something for women?

It's really up to individual intreptation. The editor might perceive the pictures one way but there's no garuntee the viewers will perceive them as intended. Whether or not something is art is vague and completely subjective.

Personally, I still see them as soft core porn. Not necessarily in the same league as strippers or porn stars but they play a similar sport.

However, the real question is about the democratics. Are most of their readers women who value the artistic depth of the pictures or are most of their viewers honrny dudes looking for high quality masterbation material with models and celebrities.

My guess would be the latter but I could be wrong 🙈

Yes, they can have a degree of sophistication. Some pics are neither porn nor fine art, but exist somewhere in the middle, straddling both genres. They could be arousing to some people but would also look at home in a frame hanging on the wall of some edgy art space. It's probably a tricky mark to hit but has been done with certain other magazines, like Lui and Purple Fashion. These are classier and more artistic than porn, which probably explains why major models, well respected photographers, and sometimes actors are willing to work for them.

Naked women are the subject of high art almost 90% of the time, dude. I don't think there's really a difference between high-culture art and low-culture pornography, except price. Indeed, when pornographic photos were first sold, they were marketed as "artist reference" manuals - not even cynically. They were sold as both. Serious artists would paint nudes based on the same pictures that others jerked off to.

by the way, go and google "treats magazine" and look at the images. You can see for yourself what they're going for; its definitely an art mag. It's kind of nudes you'll see on tumblr Aesthetic blogs, which are usually run by str8 women. He's not bullshitting, honestly.

Sports Illustrated does like a body edition every so often. It would be very hard for me to find those bodies sexually attractive but rather amazing and inspirational. Sure they're shopped but who cares lol.

Nude pics can be arty or sophisticated without showing breasts or genitals - If they do they are a "Skin Mag", hell even if pose is trashy it is being marketed as "Fap Material" under the guise of "Sophistication"

^^ I've known a couple such women, but, (1) this was way back in the pre-internet days when static images were the only visual stimulation available without great effort, and, (2) the pictures were infused with a backstory (either accompanied by one, or given one by the women themselves in relation to their own experiences/fantasies/both).

Honestly, that's the ONLY reason I wish I could get into an average male brain for an hour or two -- I want to feel what that's like, to feel a raw overpowering lust for someone based solely on physical appearance alone. Because I... I know that's a thing, but I can't intuit it.
